I love clicky pens; they're good when you have nervous ticks.

I have two good black pens, both from a hotel and one good blue pen which came from an insurance company. I will not write with any other pens. I'm really picky about the ink color; grayish, choppy ink is intolerable. It has to be jet black or a purpley-blue (as opposed to an aqua, like a Bic blue pen).

As I finished typing that, I realized that it might be a tad unhealthy.

Clicky pens are alright, but I love the ones with caps. And I really think that free pens write better. Updated On: 5/2/06 at 11:27 PM

I will usually only use a black pen, but some days, I MUST use blue -- it's not like a pattern or anything, but I'll get sick of black and HAVE to switch.

I like taking my pens apart during class. But then I'll end up losing the spring or something stupid.

I think everyone's in a transitional phase in their mid-late teen years.

Really? I know that a "I'm the only one who feels this way" mentality certainly isn't true, but I can't help but look around at so many groups of friends who seem perfectly content and not in a transitional phase at all. I'm sure they'll all be plunged into one when they go to college, of course.

That's an interesting thought, nia. With me, no matter what the issue is, I nearly always look back on past times with fondness. I don't know if it's just a quirk of mine or extremely common, but I always find myself thinking about good times during middle school and forgetting, until I remind myself, how absolutely awkward I felt in a small, Catholic school. I do think most, if not all, friendships have some sort of value to them -- I mean, you likely got something positive out of it, right?

ETA: God, I'm always so behind with this thread. I'm sorry.

As for pens... I'm not picky about the ink as much as the pen itself. I hold pens in a nontypical manner, so most pens don't feel comfortable. I generally like Zebra and Pilot pens. Updated On: 5/2/06 at 11:30 PM

I also like really fat pens.

When I was in 5th grade, a pen exploded in my mouth.

It cracks my dad up that he'll buy a fancy pen and I won't want it but I love the cheapo pens he orders in bulk. He should just be happy that every time I misplace one, he gets a little bit of free advertising :-P

Mandi, I used to do the same thing when I was bored in class. Now I just go buy a book before class if I know I'm going to be bored. I should go back to the pen dismantling - it's a lot cheaper and doesn't result in the major storage space issues I'm going to have to deal with soon.

I agree that a friendship could have been worth something at one point, but that its purpose can end that there is a time for some things to be over, Emcee.

Mandi, I lost the spring to my blue pen that way, so I took apart all the other pens in my house until I could find a suitable substitute spring.

Em, what did the ink taste like?

Ew, Em! That happened to someone when I was in 7th grade, and it was a red gel pen so it looked really gross.

Well, it was my fault -- I was chewing on it.

ETA -- it tasted absolutely vile. My whole tongue was black.

I have two Mont Blanc that I used for years, but have put them away for awhile. I use Vision Elite and a Flair sometimes. If you have been at the same desk for 15 year, you change our pens often.

I can't stand fat pens.

I'm sorry, but there are so many double entendres going on in this conversation right now.

The bad things about the explosion is that I didn't learn; I STILL chew on my pens.

I used to chew on my pencils in elementary school. They'd all look disgustingly chewed up, and no one ever wanted to borrow a pencil from me.

I always edit too late- Emcee, what does pen ink taste like?

Siamese, that's true. Even the crappiest of friendships still had to have some positivity to subsist on for their duration.

I used to think that people in groups didn't feel any of the instability that people without them felt, but the old friend I've been talking to recently has made me realize that even long-standing groups shift within themselves. No group's really quite as tight as they appear to outsiders.

As entendres are going... I don't chew my pens at all. Does that explain my lack of boyfriend? a lifetime of Banality

Hee Lexi, I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that.

My senior-year crush was a compulsive chewer. It got to the point where I kept an extra stash of pens specifically for him because when I lent him one (which I did fairly often because he was rather scatterbrained and was lucky if he remembered to bring a piece of paper with him to class) I wouldn't want it back.

That's interesting. I never really thought about it from that perspective before. I just... wish I felt better about my high school experience in general, and it's so much easier to make oneself the odd person out and wallow in pity than acknowledge that many others are in the same position.

LOL! Well, I don't know if your lack of chewing per se explains that...

Ugh Lexi, the worse was when you let people borrow pencils from you, and they chewed on it, and then attempted to give it back. Um, no thanks.

Good, Jessica (and Mandi, for that matter). At least I'm not alone in having a dirty mind. I think the "exploded in my mouth" is what really clinched it. Heh.

I can safely say that I never chewed on anyone else's pen or pencil. I have some decency!

Another thing I hate is when you let people borrow your books, and they leave it on the ground, or bend/tear/crease the cover up. It drives me insane when book covers are all messaged up.
