My 3:30 class was cancelled because we had a guest speaker at 12:30, so I spent 2 hours sitting in the park enjoying the sun and not studying for the test I have tomorrow. Boo for teachers who decide to give the final 2 weeks before finals week begins.

I don't have a lot of homework today. I might have a nervous breakdown simply because I don't know what to do with myself when I don't have tons of work.
Randomly going back to your grapes, Skittles, there is a variety of grape called the Red Globe grape, and they are larger than the average grape, but I don't think that they are genetically altered in any way or anything. Just a bit odd-looking.
I'm in the computer lab about to start really confusing data analyses.
Today, my history professor played this song that was disguised as a pop song promoting Pepsi, but the lyrics were hysterical, blaming Pepsi for people getting fired from their jobs and things.
I hate my mom
If I said in a paper that the bible doesn't have a role in our government..does that make sense?

.... I think it does have one. I don't think it should, but it definitely does -- both in terms of what's written down and what's put into [contemporary] practice.
Banal detail: I have hiccups.
I agree... while it's not *supposed* to, the Bible definitely does influence our government.

I agree. I'd say the Bible is one of the strongest influences in our government today (It's at the core of the arguments against gay marriage and abortion), but you're free to disagree as long as you can back it up.
Mel, do you mean "doesn't have a role," like... "has no place in," meaning it should not be there, or do mean you actually don't see it as an active part of our government? One makes more sense than the other, but I don't know which you mean. :-/

Mine? I can... change it if it really bugs you. :-/
Well I'm writing a paper on whether or not gay marriage should be legal, and one of the points against it is that marriage is an institution between one man and one woman. So I wrote that the bible defines it that way, and I want to say that it doesn't count, but in better words.
Oh, okay. Then yeah, IMO, that makes perfect sense. I think you just have to strongly back up WHY that doesn't count, but then you get into the mild hypocrisy of (and excuses made not to use) the separation of church and state.

Distracting in a good way. It's a great picture of Raul and I can't stop staring.
re: "Doesn't count". It DOES count, sadly, because the people in charge nowadays see fit to count it. Whether it SHOULD count or not is what's up for debate.
And I think we all agree that it shouldn't. I'm Christian, but I believe that no one can tell you how to live your life. That's between you and God, and a heavily censored and altered book that dates back two thousand years isn't the perfect guide.
My roommate is asleep. Under the covers, lights off, door closed. But, I need to watch Gilmore Girls at 8. So, anyone want to come wake her up?
Good, cause I want him to stay.
Mel, do you mean "doesn't count," to say that it shouldn't because it's religion, not political morality? The thing is that... it does count, because our President is using his religious beliefs to give leverage to his political stance. Make sense?
This reminds me of something interesting I was reading about the Christian Right; apparently, as backwards as it might sound, there was a Christian feminist movement in the 80's during the surgence of televangelism and whatnot. They *used* religion to back their movement, which was different than poltiical feminism. So, just when you're ready to slap the conservative label on all Christians...
Okay, thanks so much . I'll say it's a violation of the 1st amendment, and the whole separation of church and state thing
I mean "doesn't count" as in if they used the bible in government, it would be some what against freedom of religion, because you should have freedom from religion as well.

Fantabulous, you could always borrow a friend's TV.
The Bible has been misinterpreted and warped since it was consolidated. Did you know that there were originally thirtysome gospels? Many of them were so abstract and different that the early church took them out of circulation and used the four that were the easiest to understand and didn't present conflicting viewpoints.
Just want to say that there's absolutely nothing in the Bible on gay marriage and abortions, so don't say the Bible itself is the source, when it's really certain individuals' discriminating interpretations to force it to apply to current political issues. It's like using the Bible to back up your claim of how God would feel about the internet.
*bangs pots to wake up Fantab's roommate*
No one to borrow from
And I was kind of planning on pretending to write my paper while watching. Hmm.
I read "misinterpreted" and "misinterpretated," and thought for a minute that the world was taken over by W.
Forgive me, but what is a gospel?
It's actually the Jewish scripture that outright states that two men engaged in homosexual acts is absolutely wrong and not allowed.

It always sucks when something interferes with your delusions. *patpat*
I know someone whose mother is a minister and she says the same thing, orangeskittles.
