Yeah, and "Bandslam" has 80%. WTF?!?! I don't normally agree with critics anyway.
Movie wise...I think "Somewhere in Time" is better but this was really good.

I really love Rachel McAdams and I enjoyed the book, but the movie seems more tedious than anything. I'll probably wait for DVD.
I, too, am pretty excited about District 9!

I'm looking forward to the movie. I haven't read the book in like a year or two but I remember most of it.
off topic- I saw District 9 last night and it was great. how they started as a documentary and seamlessly changed it into a movie was fantastic. And the main actor was brilliant.

That is exactly what they did in "Behind the Mask - The Rise of Leslie Vernon"
I really wish that was popular

Posted: 8/15/09 at 5:19pmAlmost $8,000,000 on Friday...looks like it's on the track to making somewhere between 20-25 million this weekend. More than "The Notebook" made in its opening weekend...and I think it'll have a long life at the box office. I'd say a good 85% of the people I've talked to who saw it loved it.

Love the book (have read it twice). Keeping my comments brief - but overall, it was an OK watch. Nothing great - not bad.
I was one of the people that couldn't wait to see this as a movie. But as the release date got closer I kept thinking about the book. And unfortunately, what I "feared" became reality.
The truth is (at least for me) is that the material just works so much better AS a book. The way it's structured (although difficult to initially get into) with both viewpoints, the AHA moments and twists and turns works so well because in the book, there is great detail and you can "savor" each moment.
The movie - feels SLOW. And at the same time, it never lands on anything really long enough to savor the moment. I freely admit that both times I read the book, I was so into it that at times I was out of breath, and yes - did cry in a few spots. The movie - not so much.
Again - the movie wasn't bad. And perhaps it would be impossible to capture the book any other way in film.
The story is a beautiful story - and while there is definitely tension in the book - it's not MOVIE/ACTION tension.
*** SPOILERS *** I thought the ending was sweet - but the book's ending was far more powerful and it showed the ENDURANCE of love beyond a few years.
As I said - keeping it brief...

Posted: 8/21/09 at 11:48amOK, I'm almost done with the book so I should go see this movie this weekend. I looked at IMDB for the cast..and I hope this isn't true: no Kimy in the movie? She's my favorite character.

So I saw it. It was ok. It just felt a little too vague for me. I just felt like the book told the perfect story and by omitting so much, it felt incomplete. Bana was bland for sure and McAdams was fine.
I was underwhelmed.

Posted: 8/24/09 at 2:37pmLiked it, didn't love it. What's really magical about the book is not seeing them deal when they're apart, but seeing how they savor ever last second of being together. There's a slow poignancy to their time, even when it seems to be slipping away. The movie felt slow, but lacked that depth of feeling.
