The Torkelsons/Almost Home

Anyone remember this show? They used to air it constantly on the Disney Channel back when I was a kid.
Pretty much every episode on yt
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

yeah, I loved this show. "Almost Home" was horrible though. Half of the kids didn't come back. I don't remember them telling us where they went! And I remember in the original, there was a girl with a tuba who disappeared by the 2nd season. I LOVED Dorothy Jane. She was a little Julia Sugarbaker. I remember crying that last episode with Riley, when he was moving (or she was moving) and they said goodbye to each other from her windowsill.
Bill Finn rocks. Woot.

I loved the Torkelsons, and none of my friends remember it. Favorite episode = Dorothy Jane and the prom dress.

Hee- that's the *only* episode I remember- with the big flower covering the ink stain. I for some reason watched it again online a little while back and almost cried again. But yeah, I remember how half the kids disappeared in the new show- I'm pretty sure that never got explained.

I have just been watching, (Thanks for the link) and realized that Ben Affleck guest starred in one episode crazy, I almost didn't recognize him

I just remember how emotional the Dad episode was. Connie Ray was crying a lot. I had no idea this was first aired on NBC? I thought Disney Channel made it.

ugh... i hated the Torkelsons but loved Almost Home.. haha... the best part of these shows was Lee Norris... aka Minkus from Boy Meets World and now on One Tree Hill... he's one of my favorite child actors back in the day...

Beat me to it, I was gonna comment on the ep where the b!tch at the dance rips the silk flower Mama sewed on off of Dorothy Jane's dress revealing the ink stain her bratty little brother made.

My mom LOVED this show, I have a special place in my heart for it. Every episode was like one of those "very special" episodes of Designing Women. It was very sweet, southern, sentimental, the kind of show someone mentions and you go, "Awwwww..."

Remember the one where the son went through Boarder Hodges' things b/c he had no male role model?

"Man in the moon..."

Almost Home on the other hand was typical '90s sitcom crap. I specifcally remember an ep where they had my Dorothy Jane and Brittany Murphy working in a fast food restaurant and ripping off Joey Lawrence's shirt. Ugh.

My sister and I used to watch The Torkelson all the time on Disney. One of the episodes that made cry was when mamma had to rent out Dorothy Jane's room and she finally broke down, screaming that her room was her shelter from the storm or something like that....looooooved Dorothy Jane.

I watched those on Disney and on the network too!

I LOVE how when they moved two of the kids didn't go :)

Also being in band at the time, I remember Ruth Anne had a tuba on the first episode and then it changed to a French horn...they also changed Ruth Anne's and Stephen's too from the first episode!

Also, the girl who played Dorothy Jane did some of the best acting by a young person on a sitcom I have seen.

re: The Torkelsons/Almost Home

I always confuse The Torkelsons with the Cheers spin-off, The Tortellis. Anyone remember that?
