Are our friends and loved ones all ok?
The reports on the news are heartbreaking and terrifying.
Please know I'm keeping everyone in my thoughts, and hope you are all safe!!
I'm smack in the middle of LA and there's no wind or smoke or anything.
The footage on the news makes it look like the whole state is on fire.

We're ok. A small fire erupted just to the east of us, but was put out pretty quickly. We do have some friends who have been evacuated, though. Many of the major highways are closing, and some people are abondoning their cars.
Where are you at?
Roughly
Good thoughts and wishes to your friends, Q.
Diva, I'm glad you're ok!

Diva - we're in Rancho Cucamonga (just north of Ontario.) Our friends are in Anaheim Hills, which has had thousands eveacuated all at once, and rather suddenly. The highways were already being closed, and many people are getting stuck on the side streets - and the wind is HOWLING out this way!
Please stay safe, everyone!
I'm here in Glendale, and you can definately smell and see the smoke. Sylmar is just a 10 minute ride up the 5 freeway from here. Terrible, terrible, terrible!

The wind is blowing all the smoke away from us. But I just ran to the store, and it's pretty thick to the south-west of us.
A friend of mine lost their house. Luckily, no one was hurt. Saw pictures of her street and it looks like something out of Dante's Inferno!

SNAFU, that's so sad. Thankfully, no one was hurt - but the mental anguish of losing everything is just so devastating. Thoughts and well-wishes to them, and all who have lost.
I truly can't imagine...
I'm so sorry about your friend, SNAFU!
This happens EVERY year!
Why don't people do more to protect their homes?
It's heart wrenching to see the destruction...
I am safe, but friends and family have been evacuated, or are close to the Sylmar fire.
Apparently, in Yorba Linda, they have lost water pressure on some of the street pumps, and the houses are just burning, with little or nothing to be done.
It is heartbreaking.
And, the Sylmar fire was suspicious - with arson suspected. And, there is fear that some elderly were unable to evacuate.
Terrible. Just terrible.
Q, yes they are going through a lot emotionally. They are keeping in perspective though, no lives were lost and the material things can be replaced!
The air outside is GROSS!!! Sunset is amazing!
My prayers are with those fighting the fires and with those who have lost homes.
I was just going to say the same thing, Pop!
I just got back from a short walk and it's hard to breathe and the air looks grey, but the sunset was fantastic!
And, I JUST got a full Earthquake Preparedness Kit made up, FINALLY, and I thought, "What if my place burns down and then we have an earthquake?"
I hear they are on tornado watch in NY.
We're ALL gonna DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!
The picture is actually lighter than it was outside. Imagine the picture a few shades darker, and more orange. That red dot is the sun. I couldn't breathe outside, either. :/
meh the tornado watches aren't in the five bouroughs, its westchester and yonkers and what not up there and then like all of NJ
"Meh" is not a word.
And this is all insane! I hope everyone is fine and prepared. DON'T FORGET THE PETS!
In the last couple of hours, the smell of smoke (and the actual smoke has gotten much stronger in the West LA Area - not good.
"Meh" is not a word.
its an onomatopoeia that i use quite often.
But you can just continue to be a useless ass if you want.
YWIW - please take care of yourself!
That's a somber picture, VTGirl... Be careful breathing in that smoke!
