Pathetic. You know what you're in for when the the trailer contains outtakes.

It will, of course, be a huge success.

Lets see: A closeted black man in drag preaching to me about Christian values. I'm just going to have to pass, thanks.

I don't go in to his movies to be taught a Christian lesson. I go to be entertained. Either way, it's a better way of showing Christian values than watching the 700 club.

At least the unabashed bigots on the 700 club don't pretend to be something they're not.

Why has this talented man never been nominated for an Oscar?

Hollywood is so racist.

Tyler Perry is about as entertaining as doing your taxes.

I gotta say, I kinda like the Tyler Perry movies--yes, they're hackneyed and cliched and melodramatic and straight off the chittlin' circuit, but I still get into them.

And yes, Roscoe--this will probably make a ton of money!

IF it's offensive for a white man to dress up like a caricature of a black, why isn't offensive for a man to play a caricature of a woman?

I don't care for his plays and have issues with the production values of them, but I do like his movies.

As far as him being closeted....well I don't see him dating women or pretending to be straight. So I feel it is his business if he doesn't want to come out of the closet. Maybe he is to his friends and family. Doesn't mean he has to come out to the press. Just my thoughts. And I will see the movie. I will probably rent it though.

The reason his plays have a low production value is because a lot of them were filmed before he "made it".

Context, Joe, is all...as you well know.

I always just assumed Tyler was gay--he acts gay, is best known for playing a woman and started in the theatre.

Blanche: A gay theatre director! Did you ever hear of such a thing?
Dorothy: It's absolutely shocking, Blanche. Next thing you know, they'll have black guys in the NBA.

I saw MADEA'S FAMILY REUNION when it was on heavy HBO rotation, and the best that can be said about it was that it was well produced and well made and mostly well acted by a vastly over-qualified cast including Maya Angelou and Cicely Tyson. There was a lot of unintentionally creepy stuff in it, involving Madea's readiness to resort to violence at the drop of a hat, and some really icky stuff showing a bunch of heavily made up old men ogling their younger relatives at the Family Reunion.

The movie is a fantasy, where the women are too beautiful and the younger men are too handsome and conspicuously muscular. The good end happily, the bad end with a tonguelashing and a pot of grits upside their haid.

B/c as Hillary will tell you, sexism isn't really something that bothers people. Racism however is a hot button issue.

He doesn't deny being gay?

Essence Magazine 7/11/2007

But he doesn't hesitate to address the gay rumors, acknowledging, first, that climbing into a dress and wig and packing his face full of Maybelline could very well lead people to question for which side he's hitting. "It used to bother me a whole lot in the beginning, it really, really did," says Perry. "But what it's done is give me firm seating in my manhood. And if some people can't separate the character from the man that I am, then that's their issue, not mine."

Pittsburgh Post Gazette

"Perry says he is looking for the "right" woman—but just hasn't found her yet."

Media Take out March 22, 2008. "Looks like actress Vanessa Williams may have landed the most eligible bachelor in Black Hollywood. MediaTakeOut.com has learned that Vanessa and actor/director Tyler Perry are officially dating.

And word is that it's getting pretty serious. Talk around Los Angeles is that the two are spending the weekend together in Tyler's Los Angeles mansion - waiting for the results of the new film Meet The Browns."

His publicists have linked him with everyone from Janet Jackson to an African emigre- google Tyler Perry Girlfriend and you'll get dozens of shots of him with beautiful women at film premieres.

Straight, closet case, I'd forgive a lot more if he wasn't such a hack.

I just saw "The Familt That Preys" and enjoyed it. I like all of his movies with the exception of "Meet The Browns." ANgela Bassett was fabulous as always, but the plot was ....yawn...

Granted his movies ARE NOT award worthy but he knows how to crank those suckers out yearly. And you've gotta give him credit for moving up the ranks of the biz so to speak. I mean he's had Lynn Whitfield, Blair Underwood, Cicely Tyson, and Kathy Bates.

I don't care if he's gay or straight. What I'm most curious about is some people's assumption that he is, and their apparent willingness to go 'public' with their thoughts.

What is this based on? His actions? His relationship history - at least as reported in the 'press'? And why the bitchy vitriol?

I see a man who has attacked an industry that stacks the odds against him, and has made a personal success story.

These accusations of being a 'hack' kind of amuse me. He's a financial success in something with the word 'business' in the name - how is he a 'hack'?

Can you find it offensive? I suppose - wouldn't know or care, as I haven't seen any of the product. But the denigration of his success based on the parameters stated in previous posts only smacks of jealousy and sour grapes.
