What are the songs that are so beautiful that they evoke strong emotions from you?
I am listening to "Vide Cor Meum" by Patrick Cassidy in the movie HANNIBAL and it is achingly gorgeous. The first time I heard it, I cried.
The first thing that came to mind was the Etta James recording of AT LAST.
OMG, I love you for saying that. :)
There is a listening activity in our Kindergarten music curriculum which calls for an excerpt from Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings". (If you don't know the piece, it was used in the movie "Platoon")
Although the reason for the activity is to determine "fast/slow", inevitably at least one of the students is nearly in tears and says "Turn it off! It's too sad!"
Unchained Melody
Have you ever heard the song "Dry Your Tears, Afrika" from the movie Amistad? All those key changes get to me... I can't hear it without tearing up. "Eleanor Rigby" always makes me cry, too... among many others.

I played that song in band in high school! It was incredible. Love that song
One of my favorite songs ever:

Sweet Afton by Nickel Creek. Truly one of the most beautiful things ever. The lyrics are the words of an old Scottish poem I believe, so the language is so pretty and flowery too :)
Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah" was the first to come to mind.
Also, "Wild Horses" by the Rolling Stones (if not more for the story behind the song).
"Tiny Dancer" by Elton John.
"Jungleland" by Bruce Springsteen...and pretty much everything else from the "Born to Run" album. It's not the slow ballad-y stuff, but it still gets me really emotional.
I sang "Dry Your Tears Africa" in my middle school choir. I had totally forgotten about it until you mentioned it.
Rufus Wainwright's cover of "Hallelujah," "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds, "Untouchable" by Girls Aloud, "Make You Feel My Love" by Adele, "Bedshaped" by Keane, and "Hope There's Someone" by Antony and the Johnsons also get me pretty worked up.
Some songs that come to mind are "Gabriel's Oboe" by Morricone from the soundtrack to The Mission and "Nella Fantasia" which is based upon it.
"A change is gonna come" by Sam Cooke, too. A classic song that captures the social climate of the period but can be relevant to any struggle anytime, and Cooke's vocals are so soulful.
"En mi Viejo San Juan" gets me emotional every time because it captures my family's experience and reminds me of many teary sing-alongs during the holidays.
There are so many others, from all sorts of genres. I might not call them all beautiful, but they do evoke emotion, and many times they don't bring tears but joy or sensuality, etc. Heck, even some Disney songs tug at the heartstrings because of the memories attached to them and the fact that so many people share a connection to them.

Pamina's "Ach, ich fuhl's" in Act II of Die Zauberflote. A stunningly beautiful aria about heartbreak and loss.

King of Pride Rock always makes me tear up when I'm watching the movie. It's giving me chills now just thinking about it.
This may be goofy, but I get choked up at "Return of the Animals" from Children of Eden...
Aw, that's nuthin'! I get choked up by "Wichita Lineman". Such a pretty, sad song.
Here he is singing it on the Smothers Brothers show
