I love 'Fame'. The film brings back sooo many memories. The song was a huge hit. It was on heavy rotation on almost every radio station back in the day. I remember going to see it with a couple of friends who actually were in their first year at P.A.

I love the performances in this: Lee Curreri, Gene Anthony Ray, Irene Cara, Anne Meara, Paul McCrane, Barry Miller...and Maureen Teefy ~ the scene where she's auditioning and trying to get out the words to "The Way We Were" while her pushy, over-protective mother is looking on was a standout scene for me. Debbie Allen, not so much. She was barely in it and if you blinked you missed her.

Another one that really stands out was the confrontation between Meara and Anthony Ray in the classroom. Those two really went at it!

Also the little tug-of-war for "Leroy" between "Coco" and "Hilary" in dance class ~

Coco: You know what they say? The darker the berry, the sweeter the juice.

Hilary: Yes, but who wants diabetes?

'Lunch Jam' and 'Body Electric' are classics....'nuff said.

This movie was very influential and did modest business at the box office when it was originally released. When the movie's theme was released as a single during the middle of it's run it helped boost box office and then the movie really took off.

I love the movie Fame. I saw it several times in the theater when it was released back in 1980 and have watched it on dvd even more times.

I also love the audition scene that Gene Anthony Ray takes over. I am still a sucker for any movie that Irene Cara has sung for, why hasn't that woman made a comeback? I don't know if anyone caught that show two summers ago, I forget the exact title, that had numerous one hit wonders. They had Irene Cara sing "What a Feeling", and I said, hey what about "Fame"?

Love Paul McCrane in this. "Is It Okay If I Call You Mine?" much?

I love the scene in the hospital with Gene Anthony Ray and Anne Meara. She was so great in this film.

>> OK-I think there are two books that were published about
>> RHPS, let me know if you ever dig it up!

Yes, Jane . . . Sal Piro wrote two, or is it three?! I am in the 2nd book, myself. I began at "8th Street" in 1984ish. Where you there at that time? You must know Dori Hartley, Lillias Piro, Jennifer W, Julie, Barbara, Perre Poley and Maria -- or some of them, right?! We have a whole website of alumnus of RHPS, particularly us NY "8th Street" group. Lillias and Maria, who are active on the website, would love to hear from you, I am sure!!! Lots of photos, too, from everyone . . .including Sal!

I'm PM you the website address . . . and please, join!

No, Ang, I was heaavily involved in that group for about one year, probably 1979 or 80. I was basically the group photographer and had a solo show with my black and white photos, at the Soho Photo Gallery. It covered the whole RHPS phenomenon. I believe that Sal took several of the photos I gave him and put them in the books. At least he gave me name credit.

Sal probably gave you lots of credit in the book. He was generous with giving credit where it was due!

"Creatures of the Night" is the title of both books. Respectfully, 1 and 2 (I am in 2).

Love and Light,
Ang

FAME, ALL THAT JAZZ and THE ROSE pretty much defined my 'coming of age', as far as movies were concerned. And I wore the soundtack albums of all of them out - twice over.

"Is it Okay if I Call You Mine" remains one of my favorite recordings.

And I long for the day when straight boys can come to terms with theire gay brothers like Ralphie did in FAME. The 'consolation' scene in the dressing room after the disastrous stand-up routine is beautiful.

And just because, a favorite quote: "That's a bow you're holding, not your Dick!"

Sal didn't write the book I'm holding right now. It's called the Rocky Horror Picture Show Book. I'm sure they got my photographs from him.

Don't do that, YWIW. I don't have a lot of photos in there, and I can easily post photos of my photos!

Unless you really want the book, that is.

re: The movie FAME

YWIW, this isn't one of my photos, it was taken at a studio, but I'm in it-on the floor on the right in the party hat. I look nothing like that now, nothing!

This photo is in the book showing the cast at the 8th st. theater
