Since I moved up here, my engaged friends always ask me about groom's cakes. It must be a primarily southern thing, though I hear we are infecting you. It's usually a quirky, silly something that reflects the groom's likes or interests. I promised my friend that we would get him a Larry Bird cake for his. Had I had time, a friend that recently married would have had a Simpsons cake.
This cake would have been perfect for my best friend's husband. I sent her the link and we got a good laugh.

Modern mincemeat pie generally doesn't have meat in it--unless you go with a VERY old recipe. It's now more of a dried fruit and nut pie, but yes, it originally did have meat and lard in it.
I think it looks disgusting, but it is "iced" very well--good technique.
And since I'm cooking professionally this summer, I can safely say that alot of people probably would eat it.

"It's priest...have a little priest..." Make the wedding even more interesting...
Come on, you know you were thinking it, too.
