What that means, Munk, is that I deal with students all the time who feel they are above the university's rules and regulations. "Why do I have to take that course? I'm not coming to class for the next few weeks because my boyfriend's in town. Why can't I move my schedule around to suit my own schedule? (my school is on the block system) I want an A in this course, I always get A's. Why did I get a C on this paper, and don't tell me it's because I misspelled a few words." And the best one of all: "Can you stop your lecture for a minute, I have to take this call!"
Clear now?
Oh, and btw: I never go into the Starbucks at 47th and B'way anymore. That one is an invitation to apoplexy.

Well, I don't think that's as much people thinking rules don't apply to them, but just laziness.
But when it comes to being rude in public and not knowing how to be curteous, it is the adults that offend more than any other group.
#27re: There Are Rules And Laws For A Reason Rant!
Posted: 4/15/07 at 3:04pmLaziness and thinking the rules don't apply to them are the same thing. But I agree, Munk, it is the general public who are the worst offenders. Especially the people who are old enough and should be experienced enough to know better.

It happened again just now on the way back from work. It's a pouring rain nor easter, as we all know. A guy has his bag in one seat, and his legs are spread out as far as they go, taking up two more seats. All in all, there are 4 people on the whole side, where there could be 6. I stood rather than deal with him.
BTW, it's the young people who get on the subway, groups of them, and don't sit next to each other, but across. They yell back and forth across making a lot of unnecessary noise. Today one had music on and they all sang or screamed along with it. I never hear lots of noise or other disruptions on the subway from adults. always the young.

It isn't really breaking a law or a rule....
A long line at check out and the cashier decides to have a long conversation with the person in front of the line, oblivious to the others standing there waiting. Just plain f*cking RUDE.

I have a certian amount of time to go to the store on Sundays, because parking is SO BAD here, so when I get in line with my stuff, WHY does some little BEEYATCH have to come up and scream, "Mind if I cut in, I only have two items!?"
"Yes, I DO mind, I'm on a schedule..."
And then she gives ME the stink eye!
Munk said, "But when it comes to being rude in public and not knowing how to be curteous, it is the adults that offend more than any other group."
Sorry, Nope. It's the folks in their teens and early 20's that just shove and push and pretend you aren't a human that needs some space.

Posted: 4/15/07 at 7:10pmMaybe in LA, but in NY, I see people around my age being a lot more gracious in public than most middle aged women.
#34re: There Are Rules And Laws For A Reason Rant!
Posted: 4/15/07 at 7:12pmmunk, in NY I find it's generally men - of all ages - who are the rudest. Women seem to be (generally) more aware of those around them.

Posted: 4/15/07 at 7:18pmI find that older people usually come from a generation when we were still polite and considerate. It's the younger ones that bother me more.
#36re: There Are Rules And Laws For A Reason Rant!
Posted: 4/15/07 at 7:18pmI disagree...I mean yes, it's generally the men that stand in front of the subway doors and refuse to move when they open to allow passengers on and off, but it's women that have NO idea how much space their giant satchel takes up, or the look of DEATH when you ask one to move down a little.
#37re: There Are Rules And Laws For A Reason Rant!
Posted: 4/15/07 at 7:20pmI get that from men too. Also, walking down the street, or in store aisles, or anywhere, men don't have the intuitive realization of other people around them needing to get by or around them, where women do. Women, for the most part, tend to make space for others, where men tend to be oblivious that space needs to be made.

Posted: 4/15/07 at 7:21pmThere's the current attitude of "entitlement" which is growing more and more pervasive every day. The younger generation has this attitude, not the older. We are appalled at the way young people behave.

But that is largely due to the horrible job of people your age raising these kids.
My mother and all of my friends were raised well. We grew up out of this city, went to good schools, and really act like and engage in things that most people our age wouldn't.
So to include peoply like myself in this all inclusive "youth" is HORRIBLY offensive to me, as I pride myself on manners and different things when it comes to human interactions.
There are many other things I would like to say about this, but unfortunately, I probably can't say any of them without being labeled as a horrible person.

I went to see Xmen 3 and there were these kids in the front running around pretending to be Wolverine, then making obnoxious comments. They even jumped up so you could see their heads on the screen.
Of course, these weren't a bunch of 10 year olds who might possibly have issues, of course they're the wiseass 14 year olds.
Plus, you have the 14 year old girls (not me, Thank God) throwing popcorn at them and yelling.

That's the most oxymoronic post I've ever seen. Every other *adult* poster on this thread has admitted that adults are just as much a problem as young people, except you. Maybe we aren't the only ones with the attitude problem.
But that is largely due to the horrible job of people your age raising these kids.
I agree. It's the parents that are filing lawsuits against schools for expelling their children or whatever, and setting the example for their children to believe they're above the rules.
Wanting life but never knowing how

As a young person, I am always kind and courteous to those I encounter.
If someone is rude to me even after my orgy of kindness, depending on the day, I'll either kill 'em with kindness OR pull my earrings, hair, shoes and eyelashes off, and cut a bitch. That is depending on the day, of course.

Posted: 4/15/07 at 8:05pmAudrey, I agree with poeple who talk at the movies. I saw Starnegr the Fiction with one of my friends, and we just happened to run into some of his friends that I didn't know that well. And what a coincidence that they were seeing the same movie. And they talked through a lot of the movie, which I would've enjoyed. If I wasn't sitting down the row form them, I would've had to slap them.

women with baby carriages who think they own the world.....yesterday at our zoo, some beotch with a double carriage was blocking the entrance to the bath to both the male and female bathrooms. I said "excuse me" and she ignored me.....I then told her what I would do to the carriage if she did not immediately move it. She moved it.
Then there are the fathers who feel the need to bring their young daughters into the MENS ROOM because rather than have them wait for the ladies room, they think it's quicker.
I have a great one for that. I look over and say .Damn those are the ugliest little boys I have EVER seen' and then I walk out.

ROFL, yeah....and that is SO obvious from the posts you make when anyone disagress with you, calling them names and being totally offensive

it has nothing to do with age, it has to do with character.....and many people, young and old just don't have any.
To say any one group is worse than the other is ridiculous.

Elphaba, again - someone of YOUR AGE should know a little bit better.
The way I behave and interact in an anonymous online message board is very different from the way I exist in the real world. That is very true for most people on here, whether they know it or not.
