There will be no catastrophe so ghastly that America will reform it's gun laws

Diva, that list is completely wrong as the majority of those incidents listed do not meet the FBI's classification of a "mass murder."

To paraphrase our next president, With all due respect, the fact is we have too many dead Americans. Are they mass murders or mass shootings? What difference, at this point, does it make? It is our job to figure out what happened and do everything we can to prevent it from ever happening again.

Sorry, paradox, but my citation of the definition was directly from the FBI, which is the chief administrator of such statistics in America. If you do a simple Google search of "mass shootings," that list doesn't show up because the FBI defines it as four or more deaths in one continuous incident.

I have no qualms with gun control. I am completely for it, and strongly believe in it. But using false and inaccurate information doesn't bolster our argument.. It hurts it. There's no need to chastise me for wanting the correct information displayed.

one has to realize that there's nothing magical about the number four. it is probably a functional definition for administrative purposes. why is three people being mowed down by a gun that much less horrific than four?

1 KILLED. 2 KILLED. 3 KILLED. All tragic, unnecessary deaths are horrific. And I'm sorry you feel that I was implying it wasn't.

Reread my post. I was correcting some terribly inaccurate information. So if you do not believe in the chief administrator's standards, Bethnor, how do you recommend we accurately track "mass shootings"? Is two deaths a "mass shooting" or three deaths? I don't know why four is the magic number and, frankly, it makes no difference to me since I am not responsible for tracking those statistics. The FBI is, however, and this is their own definition. By the book. Has been for decades.

It doesn't make any shooting less tragic or notable, but we also need to use correct and accurate information when making our case. It doesn't help us -- it hurts us. Diva proves my point but stating that I'm just "wrong," yet doesn't actually address the fact that I lifted the definition from the FBI's publications. If the chief administrator of the statistics is wrong, who is right?

Here's another list for you (I mean everyone but Liza)

YES!!! That list just reinforces my view stated earlier in this thread: "You do realize all mass murderers over the last 25 years had been treated for - or were diagnosed with - some kind of mental illness, deficiency, etc., and/or were on psychotropic drugs leading up to their rampage... Right? Even Harris and Klebold, who were never formally diagnosed and are the one exception, had been subjected to numerous antidepressant drugs during high school. "

And it pisses me off that it wants to nit pick about what constitutes a mass shooting and what doesn't constitute a mass shooting. Lives were lost...a lot of lives were lost - in senseless shootings. That is all that matters and that is the point.

Screw what that FBI book says or how it's worded.
