Things to do in San Diego?

I will be travelling to San Diego for business at the end of the month, and was hoping some folks here could provide recommendations for my downtime. I'll be arriving on Sunday afternoon, busy with work 9-5 Monday-Thursday, then flying home Friday morning. I'll be staying in Mission Bay, with a rental car. Any shows to see? Nightlife? Thanks.

If you're in Mission Bay... you should check out Belmont Park. You're also about 5-10 minutes away from Old Town San Diego (some great mexican restaurants). The Gaslamp Quarter in Downtown San Diego has great nightlife, a lot of bars and restaurants. You could drive to Coronado island.... Balboa Park... Fashion Valley Mall... if I think of other stuff I'll write more

Gaslamp District downtown has great food and great shops.
Mama Mia ends in two days, Shrek doesn't start til July 5th
Old Globe may have something, their website: http://www.theoldglobe.org/

I'll leave the rest to San Diegans

Hanging out in Balboa Park is always fun. There are several museums on the Prado (which is a walk-way in Balboa Park). And one of my favorite restaurants is in the park on the Prado and it's called "The Prado" (so that makes it easy to remember). They have a nice back patio for al fresco dining.

The Old Globe will be doing their outdoor Shakespeare festival shows at this time. So an afternoon in Balboa Park with dinner at The Prado and a show at the Old Globe would be a great evening.

I also enjoy walking the "boardwalk" in Mission Beach especially if it's a nice afternoon/evening -- lots of eye candy and people watching.

I don't know if you are gay, but the main gayborhood is Hillcrest and there are several bars/clubs and restaurants in that area. Urban Mo's is pretty popular (but really noisy for dinner). Not really sure what would be busy during the week. Also, there are several kind of mixed places in a few blocks on the north end of Park Boulevard (the neighborhood's called "University Heights") and several good restaurants in that area. The main bar is called "Bourbon Street" and my favorite restaurant in that area is "Parkhouse Eatery" is a block down from the bar.

Also, I should mention that our local Arts Tix (link below) and https://www.goldstar.com are good resourses for half priced tickets in San Diego.

They would give you an idea of shows that will be playing when you are in town.

If you like baseball Petco is a nice park if the Padres are at home. I'm trying to remember the name of the restaurant I went to. Baja Rock Lobster or something like that.

I took this photo in Balboa Park a few years ago. I also recommend going there. It's lovely.

I cannot recommend the Vulcan Steam & Sauna more highly. I met a Marine named Eddie in the hot tub where we discussed the literature of Allan Gurganus.
