I'm surprised this wasn't brought up earlier, or did no one care to mention it?

Golly, there should have been some sort of riot associated with it and then every year on the anniversary of the riot that was sparked by the hefty combo of oppression and Judy's death everybody could get together and remember. And more importantly, never forget.
And a week later, on June 27, the day of her funeral... the Stonewall Riots.

I can't tell you how beautiful and perfect the phrase "my best hair" is!
There already a discussion going on in the "Barbra on the Judy Garland Show" thread.

That's impossible. Only Captain_Obvious knew that it was on this day, "in 1965," that in four years' time, The Voice would be silent.
I really loved the film STONEWALL. It captures this time beautifully. Well, I am assuming that it does.
We can not forget that week in 1969. Especially in this current age of bigotry.

Even if it doesn't (and I'm not saying it doesn't, I wouldn't be born for another 15 years --- SHUT UP, IT'S POSSIBLE), it mythologizes it beautifully.

Girl, you are LUCKY it's gay pride week and I'm feeling generous to give a faggot a break.
I'm gonna be generous, too. I'm gonna laugh until I pee on myself. But, very generous I shall be.

More like a hole hour away.
Did you really meet at the Top of the Mark? Special material coming up:
San Francisco,
Right when I arrive,
I really come alive,
And you will laugh to see me,
Perpendicular,
Hanging on a cable car!
San Francisco,
Let me beat my feet
Up and down Market Street!
I'm gonna climb Nob Hill,
Just to watch it get dark
From the TOP OF THE MARK!

Judy, Judy, Judy
Oh how we miss you!
I memorialized by reading that opening chapter in "The Season" where William Goldman attempted to capture the frenzy that was closing night of "Judy at the Palace." Oh, to have winessed that. Goldman describes a frail battered woman risking embarrassment at every note, closing (of course) with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," the last notes shaky but in tune: "Why.....Can't.... I?" and before the applause can begin she yells "I MADE IT!"
And what happened to all those actors from "Stonewall"? I've seen one actor in other things, but there were so many wonderful performances-- where did all that talent go???
