Those episodes of sit coms that attempt to deal with a very real societal ill in 22 minutes (sometimes 44 if it's REALLY special and needs to be continued next week).

So what are some of your favorites? I'll go first.

Who could forget the time Dudley got molested in the back of the bike shop by Gordon Jump?

Didn't Albert get addicted to morphine on Little House on the Prarie? That was pretty special.

And poor Mindy...I mean Natalie! When she was attacked on campus when dressed like Charlie Chaplin? She never should've taken the shortcut through the hedges! I'm glad Mrs. Garrett broke her down and made her join the self-defense class. I was afraid I would get NO sleep that night!

Oh Oh Oh!!! And the one where Sueanne developed an eating disorder and refused to eat anything claiming she was "too fat" because of some comment Blair made (conceited bitch). But she got her revenge. Remember at the end when she pushed Blair's face in the tapioca? "SUEANNE!!!" That was SOOOOOO funny! And special.

Kudos to Mister Matt for digging deep into the vault and bringing to light a classic and rare first season episode of FACTS OF LIFE, aka B.P. (Before Polniaczek).

I see your eating disorder and raise you a drug ring. Remember when all the older girls were getting into drugs and Tootie and Natalie went out and bought bongs thinking they were jellybean holders?

That episode alone kept me clean and sober...till about the age of 25 when I forgot the lessons taught to me by Mrs. Garrett and her brood.

GOOD TIMES: Debbie Allen, as JJ's girlfriend, shooting up in the bathroom. Florida didn't play that.

GOOD TIMES: [I think Mister Matt mentioned this one on a previous thread...] Penny (Janet Jackson) as an abused child. "Mama, don't burn me with the iron! I'll be good!"

GOLDEN GIRLS: Dorothy takes on the management of Shady Pines about their deplorable conditions. Yes, the same Shady Pines that Sophia almost burned down by making 'smores in her room...

ONE DAY AT AT A TIME: Julie (McKenzie Phillips) scales the Toot Mountain. Much to her chagrin, she gets fired from her job.

Oh, wait...that wasn't a plotline on the show...

Let's not forget that Mike Seaver on 'Growing Pains' was also nearly pressured into doing drugs and, in fact, it seemed Eddie and Boner had partaken of the forbidden substances, forcing Mike to make his stand and go home alone, even though he wouldn't get the girl and wouldn't be cool.

In the end, Eddie and Boner made the right decision also.

(It was Eddie, right?)

How about the episode of Facts of Life where they went into NYC for the day, and somehow Tootie missed the train back or however they were traveling, and Tammy Lauren, as a teenage hooker in a fur coat, befriended her and took her back to her pimp as fresh meat?

That was an amazing episode. It kept me from becoming a teenage whore for years.

How about when Dorothy, Rose and Blanche were arrested for prostitution and couldn't go see Burt Reynolds? That kept me from becoming a senior citizen whore for months.

I loved the first season of Facts of Life. Molly Ringwald and her ukelele (my brother used to call her "square-panties"), the great flood, Tootie's sneaker-skates, Cindy the lesbian (you just KNOW she had a thing for Blair), snooty Sueanne, Headmaster Bradley, and Nancy.....the pretty, yet boring friend who always hung out, but really didn't do much of anything.

PS - Avoid Tootie's brother. I hear he has a drinking problem.

Something I learned from the Brady's:

Sprained ankle = pet parakeet

On Different Stokes, in an episode post Dixie Carter becoming the new Mrs. Drummond, and her son (I believe his name was Oliver?) is kidnapped because he helped a man find his lost dog that ran away outside of the supermarket. Although, the man never actually had a dog.

On Full House, when DJ wanted to look good in a bathing suit for Kimmie's birthday pool party, so she starved herself and over-did it at the gym, therefore she passed out.

Now, now TheatreBaby. You are mixing up your desperate we-don't-want-to-be-cancelled-so-we'll-hire-some-cute-kid attempts! Oliver was the last ditch effort on THE BRADY BUNCH. The redhead tot portrayed by Danny Cooksey was named Sam.

That's when I stopped watching Dif'rent Strokes. Dixie Carter added some sass but, for some reason, they replaced her with Mary Ann "Milquetoast" Mobley. Boy...it got so boring they had to ship Dana "Gimme a Blue Doll" Plato back as Kimberly, now a fashion model (bwoohahahahaha) with bulimia.

Or how 'bout EVERY episode of FAMILY, starring Sada Thompson, James Broderick, Meredith BB, Kristy McNick, and that guy that played the brother? Man, I used to love that show.

I remember the episode that the brother (damn, what was his name and the character's name?) had a *gasp* gay friend?! I think that was one of the first gay themed episodes I ever saw on the tube -- and probably to see it now, it would be hilarious in its antiseptic-ness.

Okay, I 'fess up -- I also watched it in hopes that the brother would appear sans shirt.

Ooo I loved Family - but only because I had a big crush on Kristy - which I didn't realize at the time, I thought my crush was on her brother James (they couldn't have been more alike had they been identical twins), and that I wanted Kristy as my BFF...ah youth...
