Posted: 1/24/06 at 8:36pmThe only big winner of the election was Jack Layton (and Olivia Chow, of course). Harper is now stuck between a rock and a hard place: how is he gonna push anything through Parliament with three liberally-minded opposition parties waiting to bring him down? The only party whose policies resemble anything close to his economic reforms is the Liberals, whose crown he just stole.

Posted: 1/24/06 at 8:41pmI'm trying to take this all in stride, but I admit that I'm most worried about how there won't be one cabinet minister representing Canada's urban centres (no Connies were elected in Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal). I don't know if the Connies are equipped to understand or appreciate the increasing importance of the country's major cities, and the opportunities and problems that arise from urbanization.

We re-elected a Tory. But I'm in bible-belt country.
I'm glad the NDP won 10 more seats! I'm pulling for a NDP sweep some next election. Once the Tories screw up, maybe we will have enough sense to give the NDP a chance. Doubtful, but one can dream.

Carolyn Bennett won in my riding.
I gotta disagree w/ u re the pendulum swing in 16-18 months. I think that Harper will throw his right wing base a few bones to keep 'em quiet ( cos yr right he CAN"T push thru his agenda)while seriously wooing the cities. THEN when the parliment does fall again and people go "well, he really wasn't so bad... let's try em w a majority..." THAT's when the gloves will come off and all h*ll will break loose on our country.
Harper consults regularly w Mulroney. Should that NOT say it all??!!

LOL true, Sabrelady. And I fear that the scenario you described could very well happen.
But the three opposition parties want the Conservatives out, and they're gonna be some mighty fightin' dogs for it. It's gonna be very interesting to see how this all pans out.

Posted: 1/26/06 at 12:58amI was going to respond to this thread but your posts, BlueWiz, from 1/24 pretty much summed up what I was thinking much more eloquently.

Posted: 1/26/06 at 1:53pmThanks, Tiff! I'm glad someone is reading my blog. Maybe I should post more pictures of hot men to get the readership up. Like "Sunshine Boys," only they'll be called "Soloman Boys." Or better yet, "Sodomized Boys."
