Oh, the poor thing. It's such a difficult struggle being an outsider who isn't one of the elite.

Namo, you're right, Tony NEVER made it as one of the effete, elite, SNOBS.
If Tom DeLay is The Hammer, then I proclaim a new title for the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi: The Briber. Nancy Pelosi had to bribe her members with spinach to get their votes.

If only we could pay him by the lie- he'd make Billions!
Bush's handling of the press is another low point in our history. The output of half-truths, misstatements, distortions and out right lies by the Press secretary these last six years have been staggering.

Cut him some slack. The guy makes $ 168,000 but is probably living on borrowed time. How far will $ 168,000 before taxes go to pay what have to be monumental medical bills ?
He is looking out for his family now as he has to figure he may not be there for them in the future. The man has big medical problems which I would not wish on anyone.

I'm sure, being a Federal employee, he has medical insurance

What happens to his family when he dies?
The man has had most of his colon removed & now it (cancer) has come back. Any sane man in his position has to worry about the future of his family first & foremost. I doubt he is baling on GWB because he can not take the heat. He has serious medical problems which may be life threatening

Anyone with colon cancer deserves prayers and every possible positive vibe from us all.
But to cite a salary of $168,000 as an onerous financial plight is elitism of a high order.
I wish Tony Snow well, a full recovery, a happy future, and a robust return to Fox New Channel, where he will earn the kind of money only media stars get. But to portray his financial predicament as dire in today's America is perverse and revelatory.

actually it's honesty. here's a guy who was making millions on tv and had the lifestyle and financial obligations of a life in which one has the expectation of a certain income. he took a huge pay cut to go into gov't service to provide a stop-gap in a desperate time in an administration. if i'm used to making $150k/year my house payments, investments, credit card debt and assorted other payments are geared towards that level. if i take a $35k/year job i might be able to do it for a while, but not very freakin' long. but i understand that some folks in here are not used to hearing an honest answer from a public servant.

Hey if youhad the option of making $168K serving the emperor or making millions on TV? I know what I'd pick.

...no, not an honest answer from a public servant proudly representing and serving as the mouthpiece for the most dishonest regime in the history of this nation.

So the median income in the U.S. is what? $47,000 or so?
And more than three times that isn't enough for someone dealing with a devastating disease?
Go America health care!

Maybe he really is broke. He could have invested all of his savings in the stock market, for instance.

I have to say, I don't get the financial thing either...even after papa's seemingly rational explanation.
First of all, if this is true, it speaks of terrible financial planning, considering his former salary. Yes...it's a pay cut...and perhaps a large one. However, the financial gain he stands to get after being the White House Press Secretary will offset that in a major way. Book deals, speaking engagements and the wider audience he reaches as press secretary up his fee quite a bit. My mom had colon cancer and my dad prostate. Neither diseases hobbled my parents financially in any way, because they have terrific insurance, as I'm sure Mr. Snow does.
That said, I wish Mr. Snow success in his treatment and a long and full life.

Mr. Snow is in at least two unions that offer comprehensive care to high earners -- AFTRA and The Newspaper Guild.

I'm sorry he has cancer, but so do many people or other diseases/illnesses that cost alot of money. I would also think that most don't make half of what he does, or less. Most people owe 20%, plus co-pays, RX's, & not covered expenses, etc. I have to agree with JasonM12480 168k is alot and he probably has little to no out of pocket expenses reguarding his health care/insurance. If he wants to leave for more money that's great, but don't pull the cancer card.

Oh norn...That put a smile on my face this gray day...when my view out the window at work is both Ground Zero and the Deutche Bank building that was a seven alarm blaze this weekend. I gotta get out of downtown. It is wounding my soul.

He might have made money in the market which was going gangbusters until recently. It is coming back. For those not in the know, the market goes up & down
I would not really have expected too much sympathy from some on the board. If it were a democratic administration , the board would be gushing with hearts & flowers. As far as honesty, Clinton was not that honest . For example, his last minute pardons like Marc Rich, travelgate, & many others.
Let he who is without sin cast the first stone .Sorry to bring religon into this. Having had 2 cancer scares , maybe I have more sympathy than most.

not to ruin a good talking point, but did anyone but roxy cite his illness as a motivating factor in his financial decision? y'know, like maybe tony. if not, i want to know when ya'll granted roxy delphic status? i mean i know i'm not around as much as i used to be, but i would think i'd have noticed that.
