Has anyone else seen this yet? I'm highly recommending it as a wonderful film that treats a very controversial subject with intelligence and humor. I don't think I'm spoiling anything by mentioning the basic story-Felicity Huffman plays a man who is just about to have his final gender reassignment surgery and who, days before the procedure, meets and gets to know the son he never knew. First of all, I can't get over Huffman's appearance and performance. It's uncanny. Unbelieveable and award deserving. Kevin Zegers, as the son is also brilliant. The relationship that grows between the two is believable and brings you to know and love both characters, and the fact that there's so much humor injected into the story makes it less of a heavy handed ordeal which I've seen happen in similar stories on film and in documentaries.

Posted: 12/24/05 at 11:21amI keep asking everyone on here who hass seen it and no one has answered me yet: Does Calpernia Addams have a big part in it? She used to be an aquaintance. I was just curious.

Posted: 12/24/05 at 11:29amI had to look at the cast on IMDB to find her name. It says she was a fiddle player. Couldn't have been too large a role, I can't recall her right now, but good for her!

JerseyGirl-
Yeah, I didn't recognize the name, so I looked her up and it said "Texas Fiddle Player". I don't remember her in it, but then again, I saw it about a month ago.

Gotcha. She is a transsexual from Nashville. She was dating a soldier when she was pre-op (Barry Winchell.) The other soldiers in his barracks found out and he was murdered. It was a national story. They made a movie called Soldier's Girl about it. It was a very very sad time. I met her when she was just a lighting boy that worked at the club. I mean, Nashville only had so many gay clubs then. (Now there is a whole street of them.) It was wild to watch her years of transformation. She was so much fun. She moved to California, had her surgery and is an activist.
Calpernia was one of the women Felicity met when preparing for the role.

Posted: 12/24/05 at 3:37pmAs far as the story being trite. Well, I don't know any transsexuals personally, and who may have had a much more interesting story, but this one wasn't trite to me. I thought it quite interesting. I can't go into details without spoiling it for those who haven't seen it yet. Trite or not, you probably won't start snoring during this film!
