re: Transamerica

Yeah, it does look good.
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

re: Transamerica

I saw the movie a few weeks ago. Felicity Huffman is unbelievable! A friend of mine plays her sister, and gave me some fun tidbits about the making of the movie. She also said that the plan is to give Felicity a (well deserved) push for the Oscar. There are also a bunch of fun smaller character roles in the film.

re: Transamerica

I sincerely hope that Felicity's performance is better than Helen Hunt's clumsy, clunky and wooden performance in As Good As It Gets that inexplicably won her so much acclaim and awards.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

re: Transamerica

amen to that popcultureboy! i had always been a Helen Hunt fan, and I was baffled that she won an Oscar for As Good As It Gets... I think what bothered me most was that she had at least three different accents throughout the pic, and none of them seemed right.

Not to change the subject, or "threadjack"...I adore Felicity Huffman, I jumped for joy (literally - in my living room) when she won the Emmy. Can't wait to see this movie!

re: Transamerica

We all know why Helen Hunt won the Oscar...It helps to be an American when the four other nominees are foreign!

re: Transamerica

I agree, I wasn't too fond of Helen Hunt's performance. Felicity Huffman's performance is fantastic! Very funny, open and heartbreaking. I also thought the guy who played her son was pretty great, as well.

And he's the kid from Air Bud so it's no mean feat.

re: Transamerica

Wait, Helen Hunt was supposed to be a transsexual in As Good as it Gets? I missed that plot point.

:-P

It was subtly conveyed by her manly posture.

re: Transamerica

This adds a whole new dimension to the movie that I never realized was there.

Thank you! re: Transamerica

I just want to state somewhere on this board that I knew a year ago that Felicity would be a front runner for this. Just had that Oscar nerd gut feeling! re: Transamerica

re: Transamerica

Saw it over the weekend. Thought Felicity was superb. She definitely gives an Oscar worthy performance. On the other hand, didn't care for the film all that much.

Jerby, how many times have you bitten that pillow this week?

re: Transamerica

I hope she wins too...though Reese Witherspoon seems to be picking up momentum.

re: Transamerica

I just saw this film tonight, and Felicity Huffman gives, perhaps, the single most heartbreaking performance on film. While much has been made of her physical appearance and the vocal change she made for this role, what makes the film for me are the tiniest moments. (SPOILER AHEAD) The pain she expresses in a single facial expression as she is forced to pull a chair out for her mother is the kind of moment that makes her performance Oscar worthy.

Reese was very good in Walk the Line, but I will cry foul if Felicity does not win.
