In certain East Coast elite circles, "Tripp" is a nickname given to a young man who is named after his father & grandfather- indicating he is the "Third".
I grew up with a guy nicknamed Tre for that same reason.

I grew up with a guy nicknamed Tre for that same reason.
I know two guys named who I just thought were named Trey, but it turns out they are just nicknames for being the third.

It's good the last name isn't Palin... Tripp Palin runs together terribly.
I've heard of Trip and Tre for "III". I also once knew a guy named John who went by T.J. because he was the "third John".
