vb - I am a huge tennis fan, and am following the tournament. We'll catch up at some point.
Just so you know, I think Federer is the best that's ever played.
And Martina N. is one of my heroes.

yeah Federer is amazing.... and I really like Nadal even though he's out...
but i like to root for Venus Williams, just because she's been so slighted by her younger sister, and to me, she seems like a better person than Serena... but i don't know what i'm talking about...

Posted: 9/7/05 at 12:29ami want venus to take it all, but it doesn't look good for her at 3-1 in the third. 0-40 down.

Posted: 9/7/05 at 12:30amTorch - they're very different people and players. I personally resonate more with Venus, simply because I like the coolness. Serena is very passionate, but doesn't seem overly focussed in life - much less on a tennis court. Unfortunately, neither one are particularly 'pretty' to watch play - it always looks so labored. But BOY what power! I tend to agree with you that Venus is a very giving and loving soul. Not that Serena isn't, but she seems to hold the world a little more at a cynical distance. Although, I really can't imagine what either one of them have been through recently with the murder of their sister.

Posted: 9/7/05 at 12:37amGarland - I agree. I think what they've had to put up with in the white-girl country-club atmosphere has been ridiculous. And ESPECIALLY from the commentators. I've always taken great satisfaction in the feeling that both of them know what counts and what doesn't - and the rest of it can just take its place in line.

Posted: 9/7/05 at 12:40amWow - I wasn't watching Venus' match, just following online. Did she get injured in the third set?

Posted: 9/7/05 at 12:44amtrue, dgrant, mary carillo being the worst offender. i just turn the sound down when she is frothing at the mouth. mary is supposedly not a lesbian, but her voice drives a pick-up and runs a food co-op.

We're you actually watching Venus' match? Did she just crumble or did she get injured?
And Martina's still in it in the women's doubles!

I got to watch Henin-Harden get trounced by Mary Pierce on Monday night...live. I finally got to go to the Open!
I'm hopeful that an American qualifier will surprise everyone and win the Slam on the men's side.
And, who doesn't love the lesbian tennis players? After Billy Jean came out, and lost all those endorsements, I am just proud that that didn't stop other players from coming out.
Now, if we could only get a nice male tennis star to come out!?!?!

Touch - that's great that you got to see some live action - I'm jealous! We have a friend who lives in Wimbledon, and eventually I plan on going and staying with him during the Championships - always been one of my dreams.
And I LOVE that Pierce won

Garland - I had no idea about Liz.
And Touch, I always want Roger to win. He's such a good man, and I prefer when that's the example set. I was always VERY disturbed when Mr. Sampras was taken to task for being a gentleman who simply wanted to play tennis.
