Sorry for the posting of a topic already on the boards (for some reason, the other United 93 thread wouldn't open for me).
But, anyway, this film is simply phenomenal. Everything about it is powerful, intense, and amazingly moving. The feelings that you leave the theater with will stay with you for a long, long, long time. The performances are all very VERY strong and Cheyenne Jackson is truly incredible. This movie gets everything right and tells the story in such a fragile and sensitive way but it also tells it like it was. It deals with the story very sensitively and I dont think it could have been done any better. I strongly believe that all Americans should see UNITED 93. It is a film for our time.

Posted: 4/28/06 at 11:01pmI want to see it but I think I'm just too scared to actually go b/c I'm afraid of how I'll handle it.

Posted: 4/28/06 at 11:05pmWr, i'm agreeing with everything you said except about everyone seeing it. there are many people who i think might not be able to handle it. like i said, i NEVER cry at movies and i walked out with what i would say was crashed floodgates. you REALLY have to be prepared for this. it definitely isn't a film... i see it as an experience.

Posted: 4/29/06 at 2:33amI agree, WR. The Oscar Race began today. I was amazed at how Greengrass perfectly balanced the entire film. Just stunningly done. An important film and a great film. And if people can't see it now, it will be there for them when they are ready.

I have every faith that it's a good film, every who sees it seems to have such good things to say about it.
But yeah...I don't think I can watch it...I don't always do well with true stories. I cried from start to finish watching Hotel Rwanda and was pretty unstable for quite a bit of time. It's too much for me.

Posted: 4/29/06 at 11:51amI saw the movie last night. It's very hard to watch, but it is an INCREDIBLE piece of film. Paul Greengrass made this movie perfectly. Another thing I liked about it was how natural the acting was. It wasn't like, 'oh, here is where I say this line!'. It was very much like real-conversation. I thought it was excellent.

Posted: 4/29/06 at 12:01pmI'll get the DVD too. I hate crying in front of strangers.

Posted: 4/29/06 at 12:15pmYeah, that's slightly awkward, especially if the people you're with aren't crying :0)

Posted: 4/29/06 at 12:23pmI went on a blind date to "House of Sand and Fog" (dumb idea, I know) and I was crying like a baby, and my date just looked at me like I had a virus or something. At the end of the movie he said "That was 'different'" and I said "This date is over".

I have a question.
I was going to go alone and then my friend told me she would go with me.
However, she cannot go until tomorrow. Should I go alone today and then with her tomorrow?
There is a part of me that wants to go alone. Should I?

Posted: 4/29/06 at 12:35pmI haven't seen it, but I wouldn't want to go alone to something that emotional.

Posted: 4/29/06 at 1:40pmI haven't seen it (though if it comes out near me I will), but I prefer seeing very emotional things be myself, so I can have the moment without any inturruptions.

I saw it alone and was fine. I have been seeing movies alone since I was 12. Even saw Final Destination and Brokeback Mountain alone.
If your theater happens to be crowded, at least you'll have an easier time finding a seat. :)

Posted: 4/29/06 at 4:59pmI'm very excited to see this film, I get shivers when ever I see the trailer, I'll probably be a wreck when I actually see it.

Don't be worried about crying in front of strangers; they will be bawling as well. Everyone that was in the theater was hysterically crying. Every single person.
When the film ends, there is about 15/20 seconds of a black screen and dead silence. This silence is overwhemling and is quite possibly the most powerful part of the entire film. It can't be described. It just must be experienced.

Posted: 4/29/06 at 5:06pmi'm glad it's such a good film, so sensatively done. However, for me, I think I'm going to have to wait a while before I'm ready to see this. The actual day is still a prominant memory in my mind, that I think emotioanlly, I'm not prepared to experience it again.

Posted: 4/29/06 at 5:24pmThe last film where I lost it was Life Is Beautiful. For some reason, when that movie was over I sobbed uncontrollably.

Posted: 4/29/06 at 5:47pmI read in the VOICE this week that there was a final title card that said something to the effect, "..and so began America's war on terror..." that was yanked before the movie opened wide (and for most critics). That was a big relief to me, since any attempt to use this film for a specific agenda seems heinous. The last thing we need is further exploitation of 9/11 by anyone. We can take from the film individual responses, to my thinking, it can mean entirely different things to different people.

No, the last thing this movie is is politically vocal or preachy. It is about the people on board and nothing more or nothing less. It doesn't try to make excuses for why it happened or what it affected. It is simply about the people and how they dealt with their situation. It is a phenomenal film. Probably the best movie I've seen since and quite possibly including Crash.
I really hope it pulls a PASSION OF THE CHRIST type move and shocks everyone by garnering some great box-office numbers. It deserves it.
I strongly urge everyone to see it. If you don't think you can for personal reasons I completely understand but if you are just unsure about whether or not you want to see it or not, you have to go. It's the best reviewed film of the year and as a previous post read, the Oscar race began yesterday.

Posted: 4/29/06 at 7:44pmI saw this phenomenal movie last night. It is so intense and powerful yet very tastefully made. I agree with Wickedrocks, it is more of an experience than a movie. The characters are so relatable that you forget they are actors. They are more like everyday people you meet on a daily basis. The dialog was delivered so naturally that I forgot it was even scripted. This movie has to win the Oscar for best picture. Everyone should see this movie even if you have reservations about how you may react. Be assured, you will be in good company. Everyone in the audience I saw it with experienced the same range of emotions and I don't think anyone was not crying. It is very thought provoking and you will still be processing it long after you leave the movie theater.

"This movie has to win the Oscar for best picture."?
Ugh! It's only April 29th, for Christ's sake!

Posted: 4/29/06 at 9:01pmYes. We are 1/3 the way through the year and films from the entire year are eligible--some have even won having been released as early as February.
