i am glad to see that i am not the only one who sees the inevitability of the eventual president for life obama's martial law declaration. but they won't call it that. they'll call it something like "the national safety and security act of 2010" and tell us it's for our own good. people here will champion it, and compare it to the patriot act and opine that even if it does restrict civil liberties, seize private property, abolish freedom of speech and declare the constitution void that it is better than anything ever was under bush. they will say this through double digit national unemployment, gas rationing, bread lines, the disappearing of opposition leaders, the establishment of re-education camps and the abandonment of the electoral process.

As opposed to vodka-saturated Russians? I'd be interested to know what the relative life-expectancies are in both countries.

Did he go to see Follies? Someone should have explained it was written and set in the 1970s.

Putin and Mejedev are obviously too thick to realise they'd end up playing lapdog to the Chinese leadership. Somehow I can't see the Rambo-wannabe being happy in that role.
I'm not trying to belittle the gravity of the present situation here but the thinking described in that article is such a wrong and short-sighted response.

this is russia. putin turned off the gas to europe to make a point once. someone made that letter to medvedev public and i don't think it was the russians. putin doesn't get pushed around.
