Craig, you are taking me back to my childhood!
I remember that film.
HBO used to run it to death when I was a kid.
I remember Didi Conn was the voice of "Raggedy Ann".

Indeed. Mark Linn Baker was Andy, and the rest of the cast was impressive. Loved the songs "Blue" and "Candy Hearts"

Some of the films mentioned here, ('Millie', "There's No Business Like Show Business, "Bednobs and Broomsticks","Love Me Or Leave Me", and others), were great big hits for their studios. Not sure why they would be deemed "underappreciated", unless you mean by today's audiences. But that could be said for almost every single film musical.

And enjoy the beauty - all the joy and beauty - that a Merry Christmas can bring to you!

I LOVE "Raggedy Ann & Andy" and would love to see it come out on DVD! But, Andy was not voiced by Mark Linn Baker, but "another" Mark Baker, who I think did a revival of Candide back in the '70s - ??? Andy's big "No Girl's Toy" number is one of my favorites in the movie. re: Underappreciated Film Musicals

I love Bedknobs & Broomsticks, too. I was so glad to finally get the soundtrack of that on CD.

Also, I have to vote for "Scrooge" with Albert Finney. I totally love the fact that they're using "Thank You Very Much" on the Volkswagen commercial now.

Not saying the IMDB is the be-all, but

differs

"Not sure why they would be deemed "underappreciated", unless you mean by today's audiences. But that could be said for almost every single film musical."

Guess we should just delete the whole thread then, Mr. Contrary re: Underappreciated Film Musicals

I just feel that there are certain musicals that are not as widely regarded (the way Singin' in the Rain is for an example) that should be.

I could swear it's a different Mark Baker (as Raggedy Andy), but I don't have a cite for it, and it has been ages since I've seen the movie.

YES!! Popeye is a hoot! I used to watch it all the time, sitting on my mom's pink Jazzercise mat(why I remember, I don't know). I also LOVE bedknobs and Broomsticks. Wonderful film. I'm extremely glad I bought the remastered DVD.
While TECHNICALLY not a movie, how about that musical episode of Buffy? Classic re: Underappreciated Film Musicals

Popeye is fun - with people like Dennis Franz, Linda Hunt and Bill Irwin in small roles.

APPLAUSE, LOVE ME TONIGHT, THE LOVE PARADE (these three Paramount musicals are certifiable classics but they aren't screened often enough)....

EVERYBODY SING
SALLY, IRENE AND MARY
BLUES IN THE NIGHT
ARTISTS AND MODELS
THREE SMART GIRLS
TWO GIRLS AND A SAILOR
THREE LITTLE GIRLS IN BLUE
SOMETHING TO SHOUT ABOUT
INCENDIARY BLONDE
MOONLIGHT AND PRETZELS
BILLY ROSE'S DIAMOND HORSESHOE
TONIGHT AND EVERY NIGHT

....for starters.

Oh, BORN TO DANCE! One of the very best non-Judy MGMS!

Love "Swingin' the Jinx away" and

"Love Me, Love My Pekenese!"

I's like to add

TOO MANY GIRLS (Ann Miller, Eddie Bracken, Francis Langford and it's the film set where Lucy met Desi)

All of Ann Miller's Columbia 'B' musicals (with such great titles as EVE KNEW HER APPLES, REVEILLE WITH BEVERLY, WHAT'S BUZZIN' COUSIN?, THE THRILL OF BRAZIL and EADIE WAS A LADY) are unjustifiably forgotten - for the Jack Cole choreography alone they deserve another look.

Master--do you have the Sid Caesar show where Jack Cole and young Chita Rivera do a dance to the "St. Louis Blues" or some other city blues?

If "You Were Never Lovelier" is underappreciated I nominate it.
I think it's enchanting.

NO. I. DON'T!!!

Chita and Jack together?! TV's across the country must have exploded with the HEAT they generated!!!

Glebb, YOU WERE NEVER LOVELIER is such an enchanting film - Fred and Rita were so wonderful together. And that score is so so beautiful...besides "I'm Old Fashioned", I love "Dearly Beloved" and "The Shorty George".

Hey Jose - saw your post about Cabin in the Sky ... did you know that the tornado in the movie was the same one from Wizard of Oz? Oh, sometimes I wish I could remember things that really matter...
