Nate, are you just guessing that you will get an audition there? OR have you finished ALL Your applications...already?

I need a small clarification:
First apply, and then you schedule your audition, correct?
And in regards to scheduling for Unifieds...that is all through the school I assume?

How to properly use its/it's:
Its is the possessive. It's is the contraction for it is...

I'm applying to all my college choices in September! I have to call Ithaca and schedule my audition over the phone.

It all really depends. Ithaca I believe you can call now and schedule an audition before even applying. I know a few other schools are this way as well. But some schools you have to apply first then schedule your audition. And yeah when your schedule your unified audition that's through the school.

nate -- Ithaca doesn't have a dance audition at all. Not just at Unifieds.
And yes, you schedule everything through the individual school. Make sure you leave enough time to change in between auditions and stuff because of dance calls, etc. Also -- make REALLY REALLY sure that you're scheduling is the way you want it, many schools don't allow you to switch times and some require chunks of up to 3-4 hours.

I don't think so. I'm doing 5 so you should be fine.

I did 3 last year and was totally fine. I wouldn't recommend scheduling more than 4 a day (3 if there are dance auditions).
Spots fill up REALLY quickly, though, so I would suggest getting in contact with the schools as early as they allow. You don't want to get stuck with a 9 am dance call and have to wake up at 6:30 in order to be able to shower/dress, get there, warm up vocally, and stretch. That would be rough. Especially if you're me and you're not a morning person.

O yeah i'm not a morning person either. I think i'm going to try and schedule 2 auditions a day. About when did you call up the schools Sporti?? I know I can call Ithaca and schedule, but I can't apply to Emerson, BoCo, Hartt, and Roosevelt yet because they don't have the applications online and for those schools you have to apply first.

nate --
I really can't remember, I'm sorry!! I know Hartt takes a little whlie to get their app to the current year on their website. I'd say just call the schools and ask them when the earliest date is that you can call. The biggest thing I learned in the whole process is that the best answer to most questions is to call each school and ask because they almost always have different answers.
Can I list a few Unified tips?
-- TEST YOUR CD PLAYER BEFORE YOU GET THERE!! I saw people taking CD players out of wrapping and one of them didn't work and the girl didn't know what to do. Be familiar with how that particular one works. And bring multiple copies of your CD.
--HAVE EXTRA PIECES ON YOUR ACCOMP. CD!! I am classically trained and was asked by a few different schools if I had any opera on my accomp. CD that I could sing for them. I didn't, but I happened to know the stating note and had a pitchpipe in my audition bag so they let me sing a capella. I would say if you ARE classically trained to have an extra classical piece and an extra MT -- if you're not classical don't worry about that, just have an extra MT.
--DONT GET INVOLVED WITH THE DRAMA!! There is a lot of stuff going on at Unifieds, and a lot of people trying to one-up each other about stuff that they've done, etc. It will totally distract you from what you're there for and it really has nothing to do with what's going on. I would really suggest just focusing on yourself.
--TALK TO THE STUDENTS!! Each school will probably have a theatre student there to talk to kids. If it's a school you're really interested in, ask them questions! It's what they're there for and I learned A LOT I didn't know about some schools.
--BRING EXTRA HEADSHOTS!! There will be schools there that you're not signed up for, and some of them will have open spaces for auditions. Why not audition and see what happens? Bring some extra headshots/resumes and you'll be ready for whoever has walk-ins available.

I just made my reservation for the Hilton Palmer House in Chicago for next February! Auditioning for UMich, CMU, Penn State, Ithaca, and Miami.
Question, though - when I talked to the manager at the Hilton about a group rate she said that there is one, but that it's only available through an outside booking agent. Anyone know what that booking agent is? Thanks!

Have you finished your auditions and have an audition time? Or are you just assuming you will get one?

Oh god, no, I haven't finished applications, what with them being up for all of a week for most schools. That would be crazy... I'm hoping (knock on wood) that I'll get times in Chicago, and if not, the reservation's fully refundable so I figured why not go ahead and make it so I know I have it, but I can always change it if need be.

Start your applications ASAP, because they year can get really stressful really fast. Do not save it for the last minute.

I have read somewhere that they auditioned at unified during their junior year. How would this work if you are to apply for audition time through colleges you have applied to? Thanks. (Maybe this is not option???)

Thank you for the heads up Sporti2005
Does anyone know how hard the dance auditions usually are?

This is just speculation...but I don't think they will be too difficult. If you're not a dancer, most schools will just look at your natural ability to lean. But the dance audits will probably be very fast-paced.
