Two years ago it was reported that 'The Magician's Nephew'would be the next book to be adapted, which was what this thread was previously about. But now it's 'The Silver Chair' that will be the next movie.

ETA: I never thought this would happen after the films were put on hold indefinitely.

Very smart. Has a good chance of surpassing LION as the best one.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

I just hope that Tilda Swinton can be persuaded to return.

Yess! The Magician's Nephew was always my favorite book!

You gotta be original, because if you're like someone else, what do they need you for? -BP.

i love the Narnia films and I'm glad they are doing a fourth one... a part of me is just a little sad it's not The Silver Chair if only because I loved William Poulter as Eustace Scrubb... that kid played bratty as if he were truly acting and not coming across as some smug child actor... his change at the end of the movie was good stuff

Michael Flatley, the president of Walden Media, talks about why they are doing "Magician's Nephew" next and he also talks about the other three films.

Update: 'Narnia' returning to the big screen with 'The Silver Chair'.

Hollywood will again enter the magical world of Narnia, as the C.S. Lewis Company announced on Tuesday that it has forged a deal with The Mark Gordon Company to develop and produce The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair, a film version of the fourth book in the classic fantasy series.

Mark Gordon and Douglas Gresham, stepson of series author C.S. Lewis, will serve as producers along with Vincent Sieber, director of the Los Angeles-based C.S. Lewis Company. The three will work together to develop the script, which has not yet been written.

"As we prepare to bring the next book to life, we are humbled and excited to contribute to the outstanding legacy of Narnia," says Gordon in a statement. Adds Gresham, "I have a great deal of respect for Mark Gordon's work and am confident that together we can bring the beauty and magical delight that Narnia engenders in the hearts of those who read the books to the screen in The Silver Chair."

I actually really like the first three films. I own them all on Blu-ray.

I loved 'The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe', but I was very disappointed with both 'Prince Caspian' and 'The Silver Chair'. They strayed too far away from their source materials.

Loved 'The Lion...' and 'Prince Caspian', but thought 'Voyage of the Dawn Treader' was a mess. Hopefully they'll get back on track with this one!

I guess I should add that I thought all of the books past "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" were boring, ever since I first tried to read them around the age of 12.

Maybe that's why I like the films.

I remember loving Lion and the Magician's Nephew, but the other novels bored me.

Susan was always so tragic.

I do remember liking the Last Battle though.

Really? Huh. Interesting.

And I always liked "The Horse and His Boy." It was so different from the rest of the series.

Anyone remember the old BBC Narnia miniseries? I always wondered why they never shot the whole thing. Best part of their version of "Silver Chair" was Tom Baker as Puddleglum. "I shouldn't wonder." :-p

We had to watch those BBC adaptations during "Library Hour" in elementary school. All I remember is some corny effects (did they use animation?) and everyone laughing because Lucy was buck-toothed which annoyed me at the time as I had iffy teeth and was in the process of having braces :P It is odd they didn't do more--I guess Magician's Nephew and Horse and his Boy are less focused on the key family of Wardrobe (though Peter, I think has a cameo in Horse) but it would have made sense to do the Last Battle--maybe it was budget.

Anyone remember the TV animated version of Lion? I thought it was from the 80s, that's when we taped it, but apparently it was 1979 and directed by Bill Melendez--most famous for dozens of Peanuts cartoons. My sister and I LOVED it as *small* kids, but looking on youtube--despite it winning an emmy--it's pretty odd. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfm_qtMOz7E

So this thread has me confused--I guess because it's an addition to an old thread when Nephew was the film being made. Will the new film have any actual production connections to the previous ones? Is it Walden Media the semi-Christian group co-producing it again? Will it share the one actor Ibelieve the books do?

Best, you may have been too old by 12, relative to what else you were reading. We were read them growing up between ages 6-8 or so I guess and they were perfect for that, but I remember going back as a late teen to them and not being able to make it through.

I watched the animated version many times a kid. I did not know that there was another book until I saw the BBC version of 'Prince Caspian' one day in first grade. I did not know what the film was until I heard the names Peter and Susan and when Aslan appeared to Lucy. Not long after I started watching the BBC version of 'The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardorbe' many times and then I read all of the books and watched the other BBC films

ETA: Eric, this thread was originally created when 'Magician's Nephew' was suppose to be the next film, but now that another movie based off of a different book is happening I changed the title.

I thought these films were done for good after the C.S. Lewis estate put them on indefinite hold. Now, they are happening again.

This person at the Guardian believes that 'The Magician's Nephew' should have been the next film.

The Silver Chair doesn't sit right as the next Narnia film
