re: Urban Legend (1998)

Yeah, the sequel was stupid but I like the first one. I agree, not scary but interesting.

re: Urban Legend (1998)

loved that movie.

the urban legend containing "arent you glad you didnt turn on the light?" is exactly what happens in the movie, roomate comes home, doesnt turn on the light, other girl ends up dead. in some versions the roomate comes to pick something up and leaves, in other versions she goes to sleep and wakes up the next day...

re: Urban Legend (1998)

The ones that creeps me out the most are:

1) The babysitter - Has anyone seen "When a Stranger Calls"? It was a bad movie, but the first 15 minutes are absolutely terrifying.

and

2) The one where the guy is under the girl's bed. "Humans can lick, too..."

re: Urban Legend (1998)

I thought Urban Legend was a pretty decent movie for what it was.

Have you ever seen the version of the second story you mentioned in the movie Campfire Tales, broadway86?
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

re: Urban Legend (1998)

I had been reading Urban Legends quite a while before I saw the movie, but... when I saw them come to life, especially the whole "Aren't you Glad you didn't turn on the lights?" I **** myself. I've never been more scared in my life.

And the guy in the backseat, holy ****e, I couldn't handle it.

I'm suprised they didn't do the whole "Humans can lick too" ordeal. Plus they could have done soooo much better with the hanging from the car thing. That dissapointed me, it's my favorite one.

Question to those who read Urban Legends, does anyone know what movie it is where the girls are babysitting and the phone rings and it's from upstairs and the kids are dead... I heard it was in a movie.

re: Urban Legend (1998)

That kinda sounds like the beginning to "the Ring"...

re: Urban Legend (1998)

Mr. Midwest-

I have never seen "Campfire Tales", but it sounds interesting.

LilMiZBroADwaY23 -

The movie you're thinking of is "When a Stranger Calls" w/ Carol Kane, Colleen Dewhurst, and Charles Durning. It is a horrible movie, but the first 15 minutes are among the scariest I have ever seen. Ever. Trust me, it's worth the rental price.

re: Urban Legend (1998)

Ah sorry Broadway, didn't see your post before. oops.

But now I'm reading through all of the Urban Legends again, and I'm going to have nightmares. Great.

If anyone wants to read them...

Those are the scary ones. Crazed murderers are the worst ones.

re: Urban Legend (1998)

I rented it tonight and watched it with the boyfriend. Not so scary, and not so good, really, but good story. The plot twists weren't so great and that damn jacket/hood thing just popped up everywhere and kinda lost the importance.

Just left with too many questions.

re: Urban Legend (1998)

That friggin' parka gave me nightmares for weeks.

What kinds of questions did you have?

re: Urban Legend (1998)

First, how did Brenda get into the back of the Ford? Second, how in the word did she survive being shot, thrown from a building, find an axe, get to their car, all before they get to their car in the end? Third, wasn't Natalie cut? Wouldn't she have some kind of limp? I mean...you're bleeding. A lot. Fourth, Brenda was ejected through a windshield and into a river. In a storm. While still bleeding from that shot. Oh, Five, How in the world did she toss Damon up the tree?

Then that one guy. The janitor. Freaked me out completely. Creepy.

re: Urban Legend (1998)

Anyone ever see Black Christmas? I believe it was with Margot Kidder or Pam Dawber - one or the other. That was scarier than when a Stranger Calls, but the calls are still coming from inside the house...
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

re: Urban Legend (1998)

Justice-

"Black Christmas" was awesome! That was Margot Kidder.

Captain-

I have those same questions, too. The key to the movie is the ending. We see Brenda and a whole group of people sitting at a college cafe. She looks to the person who told the story and says "I believe you, but you didn't tell it right. Not at all. Listen up, guys. Because this is how the story really goes."

Whenever we tell scary stories, we usually add in our own little embellishments (i.e. in the babysitter story, the kids upstairs have their heads cut off OR the boyfriend's head is cut off, and the blood drips down on to the car below). The notion of the film was that the guy at the end told the entire movie. But, Brenda excuses him of exaggerating and offers the truth (something that she's probably VERy familiar with).

re: Urban Legend (1998)

But that just lead me to think that Josh/Jeff/Joey whatever his name was did the same thing, just years ago.

Its inhuman to survive all that.
