Directed by Jamie Blanks

Written by: Silvio Horta

Main Cast: Alicia Witt, Rebecca Gayheart, Jared Leto, Loretta Devine, Joshua Jackson, Tara Reid, Natasha Gregson Wagner, Danielle Harris, Michael Rosenbaum, and Robert Englund.

Not many people have seen this one, so I thought I might mention it. Any thoughts? I'll post mine later...

re: Urban Legend (1998)

I saw it. Not so scary...but I do remember the scene in the cage thing. Maybe not a cage, but there was a big scary knife.

I thought it was good...the sequel, not so much.

I think this belongs listed on the "I enjoy 'Sister Act'." thread.

re: Urban Legend (1998)

Maybe it wasn't Ubran Legend. And I never really said it was a cage, I just know that a person was behind a door and the killer was trying to kill him with the big scary knife. And it had that screech sound. Terrifying.

Captain_Obvious-

Maybe it was "Halloween H20". That scenario sounds familiar.

re: Urban Legend (1998)

Here's what I think about the movie: It had a really clever premise and the writer milked it for all it was worth. As Rath said, Jamie Blanks assembled a really hot cast, all doing very well (even Tara Reid was convincing in her... big moment).

I thought it had brilliant cinematography (even if you don't like the movie, you have to agree on that) and smooth editing. More than its fair share of elaborate death scenes (the gas station, the forest, the radio station). Thankfully, the killer wasn't so predictable, and the twist behind the killer's motives that was well-hidden. I really enjoyed it. And on top of everything else? A hilarious performance by Loretta Devine.

re: Urban Legend (1998)

One of a handful of forgettable horror flicks that came out in the wake of 'Scream.' It's not noticeably better or worse than the rest of them.

re: Urban Legend (1998)

I see very few connections that "Urban Legend" has with "Scream", other than the genre they're both in. In fact, it has more in common with 80s horror movies, than it does with "Scream". What sets it apart from the other horror wannabes is style, wit, and energy.

Good in concept. Lacking in execution.

re: Urban Legend (1998)

i loved it when it came out... definitely the most creative ending for a horror movie that i have seen... it was SCREAMING sequel, but i don't think they should have made it just to leave that suspense there

re: Urban Legend (1998)

It's very similar to 'Scream,' in that the dialogue is over-thought banter, the story is a mystery draped in horror cliches and the killer when revealed is someone close to the protagonist the entire time. (And 'Scream' spent much of its time lampooning the same 80's style horror movies.)

Trust me, 'Urban Legend' only happened because 'Scream' made $100 million and they knew they had a new formula to use.

re: Urban Legend (1998)

I really liked it, but I've always been fascinated by the concept of urban legends. Definitely good suspense, a great cast, and this was back when Tara Reid was curvy, hot, and rarely annoying. Never saw the sequel. My favorite movie dealing with urban legends is Urbania....not horror, but really worth checking out.

re: Urban Legend (1998)

I love these (especially the end of the sequel when Rebecca makes a cameo)
I thought the cast was great (A fan of Alicia Witt and Loretta Devine), and it's a decent slasher movie. As a fan of slasher films this one was better than I Know What You Did Last Summer, though I Still Know What You Did Last Summer was better than Urban Legend: The Final Cut.
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

I actually think it is one of the best modern teen horror movies. Loved *almost* every single minute of it.

re: Urban Legend (1998)

In the horror genre, when was overthought banter a bad thing? As for the horror cliches, what would a teen flick be witout them?

"and the killer when revealed is someone close to the protagonist the entire time."

That's where the surprise is.

re: Urban Legend (1998)

was this the movie with one scene where a college girl is being strangled in her bed, and her roommate walks in the room, but thinks that her roomate is having sex, so she goes to sleep and the girl is killed? Yeah, that was one bizzare movie that I didn't have the stomach to watch all of LOL

RENT-

Yeah, that is the right movie. The strangulation scene is tough to watch.
