She's close to remission? How great is that?
I haven't watched DWTS in years, but I might have to tune in this year.
I ADORE Valerie but I am also very worried for her to be on this show. I know she loves to dance and I think she will do a great job. I just fear for her getting dizzy or falling. I really hope she is beating this sucky disease!
I don't watch. But I thought the whole concept of the show was to take stars who've never danced before and have professionals turn them into dancers...no?
Well, they SAY dancing other forms doesn't necessarily prepare you for ballroom. But neither of my left feet would know.
Valerie Harper's professional dancing career was a half-century ago.
Jane Seymour was classically trained before she was in her twenties and she was 56 when she was on the show. She still showed that she had the training when you looked at her arms and posture.

Since Valerie was once a chorus girl, maybe they could give her some sort of handicap to level the playing field, but I don't know ... What could it be?

I wish Valerie well on the show and hope her health will continue to improve.
Her performance in "Looped" was one of the best in many years. I have never watched "Dancing With the Mostly Has Beens and Never Weres" but if she were on it, I would set my dvr and watch her sections.
Between her and Bill Nye (yes, the science guy!) I might have to tune in this year.
I heard Sandy Duncan is planing to replace her if anything goes wrong.
don't know how elizabeth Berkley's body is now, but in Showgirls her body was absolutely SICK SICK SICK!

I heard Valerie say that she really has lung cancer that wound up in her brain. I don't understand it.

Correct. She was originally diagnosed with lung cancer in 2009. A few years later, she was then also diagnosed with a condition that spread those cancer cells from her lungs to certain membranes surrounding the brain:
"In 2009, Harper was diagnosed with lung cancer. She announced on March 6, 2013 that tests from a January hospital stay revealed she has leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, a rare condition in which cancer cells spread into the meninges, the membranes surrounding the brain."
"It seems weird to me that a lot of those people are dancers. Christina Milian, Amber Riley (guess she's done with Glee) and to some extent Nomi Malone herself."
And Elizabeh Berkley is a trained dancer too.
"Well, they SAY dancing other forms doesn't necessarily prepare you for ballroom. But neither of my left feet would know."
Yes they say that, but dancers are still going to have an advantage over non-dancers and are going to pick up choreography much More easily. Usually the people who do well each week are those who have had some dance training.
