It seems a little weird that Valerie Harper would be on the new season of Dancing with the Stars what with her having brain cancer and all. Not sure how these rumors usually shake out since I've never watched the show before. Just thought many of you here would be interested in that.

Valerie Harper is the last person to make excuses, but can you imagine a better one?
"Yeah, I missed that step: my brain tumor interfered with my memory of the dance!"
Good for her if it ends up being true! Live life to it's fullest, then exit gracefully!
Well, I'll certainly watch her.
And BTW, I believe she was a Broadway dancer before she got her start in TV. So she may be quite good!

It seems weird to me that a lot of those people are dancers. Christina Milian, Amber Riley (guess she's done with Glee) and to some extent Nomi Malone herself.
Heard this on the radio today. Cheering for her.
I, for one, am thrilled for her!
I will now, maybe, actually watch the show.
And then turn the channel when she's finished dancing....
I thought it was weird when Nicole Scherzinger won, since she is a dancer/singer. I prefer for non dancers to win. Say, athletes and actors. It seems silly to award the prize to a dancer.
I'm rooting for Elizabeth Berkley to win though. I want her to sing "I'm Not Excited" in a cheerleader uniform with caffeine pills.
I don't watch. But I thought the whole concept of the show was to take stars who've never danced before and have professionals turn them into dancers...no?
I used to watch. I liked the show when they got people like Steve Gutenberg and George Hamilton. Now it seems filled with reality stars I've never heard of.
But, I'll watch if this is true
I love Valerie's attitude. She is well aware that her cancer is inoperable, so she's not in "denial." She is just going about her business living her life. Full steam ahead until she can't anymore.
But she ain't down yet. And there's no reason for her to act like it's already over when it isn't.
She's an amazing woman. And yeah, she was on Broadway in the dancing choruses of Take Me Along, Wildcat, and Subways Are For Sleeping, plus the movie chorus of Li'l Abner (and she's great in it).
I hope she kicks butt.

I think more people than will admit it will be tuning in for morbid curiosity. They'll be saying they will watch for her story of strength, but in reality? They'll be watching to see if she makes it to the next week. (Yes, I know I'll be going to hell.)

I'm not a viewer but I will watch if she's on. I want Leah Ramini and Valerie to be the top two and then pair up to defeat cancer and Scientology.
they only listed the 6 women set to join the cast, no rumors about what men might join??

I've said it before, but I love the way she's handling her farewell tour.
She is going out in style and good for her! She seems to be reviving her career with this move. If she can and does good for her! She will be an inspiration to others who are also battling life threatening illness.
Here's a short clip of VH in the movie of Li'l Abner. There's also a clip of her in "Jubilation T. Cornpone" on YouTube where you can spot her, orange dress, mostly in the 2nd row of women.
Valerie Harper - Li'l Abner
~ i'm not a viewer either, but i will watch it for valerie and show my support.
~ valerie *was* a broadway gypsy. she was in the chorus of 'wildcat' and 'subways are for sleeping'
~ and as justaguy mentioned the film version of 'li'l abner' along with beth howland.
~ besty, your post echo my sentiments to a 't'...but i wouldn't have been able to express them as eloquently as you just did.
Val announced on TV today that she is "close to a remission." Let's keep praying!!!!!
Was that Beth Howland in the red dress in that Lil' Abner clip?*
*I didn't see Carlos' post before I asked the question.
That was one of my favorite movies when I was younger. Love that musical.

she's apparently close to remission!
I am so happy for her. I will watch her on Dancing With the Stars. She's an inspiration-a classy lady, who keeps on living as long as she can!
I am so glad to hear this!!
I may be able to get through another season of this annoying show.(the hubby likes it!)
Love to Valerie!
