Fabulous rate and I don't need much on this short, spur of the moment trip. Just a bed will do. But have a few concerns. Hoping those who've stayed can supply info:

1. Is it safe. Do all the rooms have secure locks?

2. Are my possessions (I'll take major items with me during day)safe when I'm not around?

Again, I'm not expecting the Hilton for that price but I just want to makes sure I and my belongings will be safe.

Thanks in advance!

It's safe and clean. The rooms are like college dorm rooms - a single (not very comfortable) bed, desk and dresser. Communal bathrooms down the hall. Good safe neighborhood.

And there's a great gym there--recently renovated.

Did they fix the bed bug problem from a few years back?

I was living in the Vanderbilt during the bed bug scare of 2007 (my college used to rent dorm space there). It really wasn't as big a deal as some made it out to be: I can count the number of CONFIRMED cases on one hand. Anyway, the building is safe and clean, but the rooms are the size of a closet and the walls are paper thin. And, of course, if you're not comfortable with communal baths it's a no-go.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Can you get the same price at the Westside YMCA? The Westside is just off Central Park and in a more fun neighborhood.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
