re: Could Spring Awakening work as a movie? Jun 21 2007, 12:40:10 PM
"The main problem I had with the Rent film was that it lacked the energy you find in the theatre and it really brought it down for me" I think the lack of energy was less because it was Rent on film and more because it was Rent directed by the guy that did Mrs. Doubtfire and the first two Harry Potters. (And it felt like it was directed by the same guy.) "I agree-tape the stage version, but if they did, they better do it soon, before the original cast leaves." Well the

re: me as mrs. meers in Thoroughly Modern Millie Oct 1 2006, 11:39:59 PM
You do look like you did a very good job as Mrs. Meers. But in regards to: "and besides... its not as if i just woke up and was like..." Im gonna dress up as mrs. meers today..." i was cast in the role... which can be played by a man or a woman... and thats that" That makes it seem (to me) as if you auditioned and were by surprise cast as Mrs. Meers and you did the honorable thing and accepted the challenge. In actuality, I believe you said that you did some figurative arm-twis

re: Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) as Anthony Hope in Sweeney film? Aug 30 2006, 05:28:00 PM
Eponine: I would assume Jamie Bell could sing as we was a member of the National Youth Music Theatre when he was younger. I'd love to see him in the film too, though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_Bell EDIT: HTML problems/Him being Jamie Bell not Wentworth Miller.

re: Will Les Mis extend? Aug 30 2006, 05:13:42 PM
Theatremania has it listed as an open run. Broadway.com has no closing information listed (compared with History Boys which has a listed closing date) But Playbill has a closing date listed. That said, Playbill also lists Beauty and the Beast as having opened in 1996. So apparently, their listings aren't the most reliable.

re: Phantom Ad--Creepy? Aug 26 2006, 12:58:42 AM
Am I the only one that is still annoyed by the misleading tagline: The longest-running musical ever? Broadway: yes. Ever: no. (Fantasticks and West End's Les Mis come to mind.)

re: YES! Tonya Pinkins is Caroline AGAIN!!! Aug 24 2006, 07:32:37 PM
I guess I equate wide appeal with lack of understanding. The Angels in America analogy still stands because AIDS was seen as 'that american thing' and yet the show was still well received.

re: YES! Tonya Pinkins is Caroline AGAIN!!! Aug 24 2006, 07:29:41 PM
It's at the National for a limited run. There's a little bit more room for experimentation and less commercialism. From talking to my professors last semester, AIDS was a completely different concept in the UK as it was in the States at the same time (it was seen as "an American thing") but that didn't really stop the UK from embracing Angels in America when it played in London... I don't understand how just because you aren't American or British, you can't understand Caroline, or Chang

re: YES! Tonya Pinkins is Caroline AGAIN!!! Aug 24 2006, 06:59:10 PM
That's an awfully limiting assessment of the show. That's like saying The Lion King wouldn't be successful because we're not lions or something. (wow, that was really eloquent.) I don't think there's any reason that it won't succeed at the National. Look at how popular The History Boys is doing in America and that deals with quintessential British themes.

re: A Chorus Line sign in Times Square Aug 22 2006, 06:04:47 PM
I would imagine that Wedding Singer couldn't afford to keep it up and A Chorus Line...could afford to put one? I don't think the city just pulls an ad from the building because it has had enough advertisement.

re: why are some people just unwilling to try out musicals? Aug 20 2006, 02:28:33 AM
"The real problem is not people disliking showtunes, it is people refusing to even listen to showtunes. Many non-theater people refuse to listen to any musical theater song because 'it is from a musical.' However, I am sure there are an equal number of people who change the radio as soon as a rap or country song comes on because they 'do not like rap' or 'do not like country.'" But they love it when Gwen Stefani and Jay-Z sample from showtunes. Heh.

re: RENT cast recording.... Jul 26 2006, 01:08:17 AM
I don't think they released anything past "On sort ce soir" (Out Tonight). And I don't think you can buy it, either. It used to be on the Quebecois production but I doubt if that website is even still up/the link still works.

re: NT Caroline, or Change Logo Jul 26 2006, 12:48:46 AM
Having just come back from a semester in London, I'm pretty sure in regards to the text-title, that is how they usually do it. That's what Southwark Faire, 2k Years, Royal Hunt... etc's logos looked too. You can see them all on their website: http://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/ Re History Boys: It is the UK tour cast/when History Boys last played at the National in...January 06 cast. I like it, it reminds me of Britain for some reason.

re: Definitive Musical for each Decade of 20th Century Jul 22 2006, 01:05:41 AM
"since when did rent take place the 90s?" since before columbus/chbosky made a film of it. although there wasn't a real date, i think the majority of the opinion was it was 90s. (Just lyrically, there are references to Oklahoma City and Thelma and Louise...or am I completely off-base.)

re: 43rd Street Between 9th and 10th Avenues to be Renamed 'I Love You, You Jul 17 2006, 03:15:15 PM
What will it be called after it closes is such a non-issue because it isn't like anyone will be referring to it as such while the show is still running. It'll still be 43rd between 9th and 10th. I never call the renamed streets by their new name.

re: Caucasian Chalk Circle Jul 15 2006, 12:03:51 AM
mlsheehan: I agree that the internet is your friend. So is the library/bookstore. theaterfreak: oddly enough when I went to Thespian convention a few years ago (when I was still in High School), The Woodlands (at least I think it was) did this horrendous production of Les Miz. Maybe it wasn't that bad...all I can remember was that Cosette had blonde dreads. (If it wasn't the Woodlands, I apologize.)

re: Chenoweth? 'Running With Scissors'? Jul 14 2006, 11:51:37 PM
*SPOILERS?* According to imdb.com she is playing Fern. And unless they changed the role drastically from the book...Fern is in it for not really that much as a Preacher's Wife who has an affair with Annette Benning (Deirdre). But it isn't really a CO-STARRING role because the movie...well you've seen the trailer...

re: people who shouldn't.... Jul 14 2006, 12:50:15 AM
Mel B (Scary Spice) wasn't the worst thing to hit the Nederlander though. She was only somewhat below an average Mimi and I will say that her "Without You" is in my top five favorite performances (of that song).
