Irritating? I could scream when I'm subjected to someone's taste in music while I wait for them to answer the phone.

Ringtones and ringbacks generate more income for artists and songwriters than actual song downloads and CD sales. Doesn't that make you feel old.

I always wondered how that works. Does the phone not ring right away and you get the music, then it rings?

The ring is replaced by the song as soon as the phones connect. There is no delay on the receiver's line.

I tried using ringbacks a long time ago. Everyone thought they had dialed the wrong number.

One of my friends had a ringback tone and then he also used that same song for his voice mail which was very irritating because I never knew if he was going to pick up or not. I almost always ended up thinking I was leaving a message and he would answer the phone wondering why I was leaving one.
