Here's a wonderful pre-MTV video for your high tech enjoyment!

The tech might be questionable, but the talent is undeniable. And the song is just plain wonderful

In 1979, the following was the watershed moment in rock video. I remember Don Kirshner going on and on about how this was the video after which nothing would ever be the same again.

And he was kind of right.
tell me why...

Actually MTV was late to the party. On her first show in 1967, Carol Burnett did a sequence where she played the cleaning woman in a disco. She was doing music videos long before MTV.

ABBA had a TON of music videos in the 70s using a variety of styles with a couple of them becoming rather iconic in their imagery (Mamma Mia and Take a Chance on Me spring to mind). They made videos of pretty much every single they released. I tihnk most people forget that music videos actually did exist before MTV.

ABBA did a lot of pre-MTV videos, and I remember seeing them, too! Like this one from 1974, directed by Lasse Halstrom. It was called a "promotional film," and I find it interesting that this song was never intended for release as a single. The film was used to promote the album release, but the song became so popular from this film that it was released as single, and the rest is history.
Mamma Mia!

Was Carol dancing to disco music in 1967? Also, The Monkees predated the Carol Burnett Show.
