Rosie O'Donnell has branded the on-air feud with her former co-host that caused her to quit talk show The View a 'publicity stunt'.
The star's war of words with fellow presenter Elisabeth Hasselbeck over differing political views last month (May07) led to O'Donnell leaving the show - but she now insists the dramatic row was purposely incited, according to the New York Daily News.
Speaking at the launch for her new book Celebrity Detox, she told the audience her publicist "orchestrated that whole publicity thing just to get more attention for the book ... brazenly calling up the other hosts, telling them to incite me".
O'Donnell had already chosen to leave the series when her year-long contract expired this month (Jun07), but left The View three weeks early, on 25 May (07).

Just like Paris Hilton blamed her publicist for having to go to jail.
You know it's hard out here for a publicist
When he tryin to get this money for the rent
For the Cadillacs and gas money spent
Because a whole lot of Rosies talkin doo-doo

I wonder if she'll fire her publicist.

I should have gone directly to the source.
The on-air spat that prompted Rosie O'Donnell to quit "The View" - aww, it was only a stunt, she joked yesterday.
O'Donnell left the program May 25, three weeks before her slated departure, after a fight with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck over the Iraq war.
But at a publishing industry event where she plugged her memoir, "Celebrity Detox," O'Donnell quipped that her publisher "orchestrated that whole publicity thing just to get more attention for the book ... brazenly calling up the other hosts, telling them to incite me."
The book, expected out in September, chronicles Rosie's return to the public eye on "The View" a year after leaving her own Emmy-winning talk show.
'View' feud a joke - Rosie
Why am I not surprised?
In other words, she was getting negative backlash from her potential book-purchasers, so she has to come up with some lame excuse to cover it up. And yet long after her book is in the bargain bin, she'll still be making b*tchy comments about Elisabeth.

It didn't look like a joke. I have a feeling this is either untrue or has been taken out of context. Wonder if Rosie will be making a statement either way.

Well, the Daily News article makes it seem like Rosie was joking when she made that statement. I don't know. I think I jumped the gun with this post. Nothing surprises me when it comes to Rosie these days, though. Girlfriend has come unglued.
I don't think that feud was planned at all.
I'm pretty sure she was joking about it being a joke.

I was joking when I joked about her joking about the joke.
I was joking about not knowing you were joking about her just joking about the joke which wasn't a joke.

Hee. I'm usually on Rosie's side, and totally was during the Bitsy feud. But I really think she should have finished out the remainder of her contract. What was it? Two weeks? I know she has enough F You money to do whatever she wants, but it made her look like a baby.
I'm not mad that you got mad, when I...
....said "go drop dead"....
Not planned at all.
