I've never noticed the elasticity, but then again, I mix so much other stuff in there, how could I tell?
blue, I totally missed it, did you yell at me?

Here's where the elasticity comes in. If you watch while they milx the goodies in, they kind of knead the ice cream if you will, or fold it in, and the ice cream stretches when they do that. oy.
Ok, I know I need to stop noticing all these details and just enjoy it!

Ya know, you're right. And it never starts to melt as they're mixing it. Strange.
Not that I'll stop eating it.

"you're right. And it never starts to melt as they're mixing it. Strange. "
that's because of the COLD STONE that they mix it on to keep it from melting.

Of course not, shamey. I actually went to vote for tobiasragg and the site said I'd have to go to a retail location, order his concoction and THEN they'd give me the code to plug in. I told him he should have mentioned that in his post. Turns out he did! My bad.

On second thought, that sounds like way too much work.

#36re: Vote for my Cold Stone iMix America creation!!!!!
Posted: 8/29/08 at 1:46pmCold Stone has the highest fat content of any ice cream out there. I read they use the fattiest cream or something.

What kind of a sicko looks at the fat content of ice cream???
Guess I'm never taking you to Kilwin's.

Posted: 8/29/08 at 2:02pmit's funny-my taste runs from one extreme to the other. I like the fattiest ice cream on earth, and I also like Tasti deLite, which has no fat as well as no flavor!

I seriously consider Cold Stone to be the worst ice cream I've ever eaten.
LOL How did I know you would say that?
jane2 - The elasticity is the best part. Al of my favorite ice creams have that same elasticity: Cold Stone Creamery, Fredo (Buenos Aires), Australian Homemade (sadly, both Chicago locations closed), and many gelatos I've tasted in Europe.
I don't know how long Cold Stone has been around, but I remember the exact same type of place opening up around Houston in the mid-80s called Marble Slab Ice Cream. Though I admit, I like the ice cream at Cold Stone better.

Posted: 8/29/08 at 4:51pmLOL, Matt-just what is it about that elasticity that makes it the best part? (this I gotta hear!)

Posted: 8/29/08 at 5:48pmIt's a texture thing. I prefer that texture over the traditional hard scoops of American ice creams. My parents prefer it as well. Any time you discuss favorite ice creams with my mother, she will always mention the word "stretchy". Seriously. Texture can often be a deal-breaker when it comes to foods. For example, I cannot handle a grainy or waxy cheesecake. I will send it back.

Posted: 8/29/08 at 5:54pmOh you're preaching to the choir! I simply cannot eat yogurt because of texture. Also I cannot eat aspic for the same reason.

I worked at a Cold Stone for three years in high school, but it's been at least five years since I've stepped foot into one. I'm looking at the website and there are so many flavors I do not recognize AT ALL (when I quit, they were just starting to introduce the stupid "Like It/Love It/Gotta Have It" sizing, and cake batter ice cream was still new) -- we used to have these gross little flavoring bottles we'd have to add to the sweet cream ice cream on the stone to make a lot of those. My favorite thing to make was birthday cake ice cream with yellow cake, bananas, and cinnamon....banana bread, mmm.
Jane, I wish I could tell you what was in the ice cream (the mix came pre-made and we just poured it into the machine), but you probably would not have liked seeing it come out of the machine, because it looked a lot more malleable and elastic-y before we put it in to freeze. (It was still delicious that way, though.)
Oh, Cold Stone. Except for maybe the free ice cream and employee discount, I do not miss that place in the slightest.

Thanks for the info, comma. I probably don't even want to know what's in that stuff. Some things are better left unknown, you know?
For instance, I was told that the Mr. Softee ice cream is made out of petroleum. WTF?
So now I don't buy it.
