re: WOW! The Protest is Crazy! Anyone in the city right now?

What is it like?

I got off the subway to run an errand, and was immediatly bombarded by police, and people. Police were screaming to go back downstairs into the station. I went back down to find another exit. There were about 5 cops per square foot, cops on horses, cops with machine guns, helmets and those rally beating bats :P I finally got out of the station (20 minutes later) and got to the street which was blocked off on every side. I had to walk from 34th and 7th to 37th and 9th then back down to get to where I needed to go. It was nearly impossible to get across town. Rally people were everywhere chanting "defeat Bush"! and beating drums. On any random corner masses of about 40-50 NYPD stood together. Two hours later I finally got back to my bus stop. But the bus stops all had a sign that no busses were stopping.
Also a few things I was thinking about:
It seemed like every cop in the city was down there. It would be really easy for terrorists to attack another location. And if something did happen at RNC, the way they have it set up,I don't know how anyone would get out. People couldn't even find a way out today.

Hmmmmm. Strong feelings. And compared to peaceful Boston, I would hope the president and his allies would take a hint...

SOB. I tried to get to Times Square to buy a ticket to Caroline.
A Cop came over to me and asked for identification. HE THOUGHT I MIGHT BE A TERRORIST. I AM VERY TAN.
I showed him id and then decided to go home instead.
IT WAS REALLY HORRIBLE. Do i look like a terrorist?
I went to the gym and got a better tan. I hope it is not like this all week.
Shoot!

Was staying away from midtown today. I live on UWS so I thought I would go relax in central park. There was a damn helicopter that kept hovering right about where I was laying down....not so peaceful. It was so annoying. I did see some protesting in the park. Not much though. But there were plenty of New York's finest (beer guts and all) in the park as well. So even if you stay away from MSG, this convention is annoying as hell anywhere you go.

Yes, Corine you look like a terrorist. lol. I'm just kidding. I'm watching the news right now. Looks bad, but I'm glad people are out voicing their opinion. I'm not taking sides on this one. I won't be registering for any party when I register this year. I just know I'm not voting for Bush...

The cop came over to me and said "HAVE ID" I said WHY?
He said- Just doing my job. I said you think I AM A TERRORIST?
He shrugged his shoulders. I said I am JEWISH AND AN AMERICAN CITIZEN.
He said they are on alert.
I said fine and left the subway and went to the gym.
YEESH.

It is crazy in that there are lots of people and police, but everything has been very peaceful thusfar. We'll see what happens tomorrow when the whole thing cranks up for the week.

In the meantime, I laughed at the evening news on broadcast channels, prettying up the RNC's day at the theater by saying they were seeing some of 'the most popular shows on Broadway' and 'some of the finest entertainment available on Broadway'...just don't go anywhere near anything controversial, kids. It might sting

Corine, hello, you're a Jewess. Of course, you're a suspect in John Ashcroft's Christian rock Justice Department.

The reason it seems as if no one likes Bush is that you are reading theater boards, often frequented by more liberal minded people.

If you want to know why Kerry is running a campaign, look to the deep South and middle america and note how Bush has pushed the 'religion' and 'patriot' hot buttons to get his votes.

Kerry has his work cut out for him and I only wish I could vote more than once against Bush. I don't know that Kerry is anything close to perfect but Bush scares the heck out of me.

Yes, Beauty and the Beast, must have been great fun for them...

Don't kill me but I loved Beauty and The Beast.
I saw it last year and loved it.
A very dear friend took me. I miss that friend very much.
He is a dear dear person.
We lost touch and I am depressed.
Hope he knows what a great friend he was and that I miss him!

In some ways, it probably would be better if Kerry didn't campaign. He's so inept it's painful.
#23

dammit, plum

hush yo mouth, child!

actually it's been suggested more than once that kerry's best opportunity for winning is to not campaign at all and merely get in as the stealth candidate. if we can get him out of cambodia that is.

You're right, plum. It's so much better to leave W in that office. He's so misunderestimated and has such good strategery for America. Yeah, I wouldn't want an inept guy in the Oval Office...
