I'm confused. If he could prove he paid for the lighters why did Walmart send him a $158 bill for them? Just because they can I guess.
The article states that the couple is partially at fault because they got angry. Yeah, if I was accused of shoplifting and was innocent I'd be pretty mad too.
Oh, Walmart, what next?

"Honestly, the straights can have it."
Isn't that what a lot of people were saying about marriage a few years ago.
Mister Matt may well be right: there may be missing bits to this story. Or it may be just what it looks like: a powerhouse f*cking with the gays because it can.

Yes, if you have time to wait, online ordering is a better option than WalMart.

That's so weird. Because the righties are always in a bunch about how "small business" are being trampled on for this and that and then you have a company like Wal-Mart. It's all so confusing!

Being banned by Walmart's for life?
Isn't that sort of like being banned by Denny's for life...?
And how will it be enforced, pray tell?

While I do disagree with how Walmart is acting towards the couple, I am not sure regardless if I would bitch and moan over a lifetime ban from someplace like Walmart or Denny's. Both are places that if you can avoid and you're smart, you should avoid them.
However, I must admit, that I had no choice but to go to Walmart when I was in school. Their prices were so much lower then something like Shop Rite or Target when it came to food. And, when you're on a college budget you sometimes have to shop where you don't really want to. I do however, remember the feeling of me dying a bit inside every single time I went in there.

Posted: 11/10/09 at 9:14pmI'm surprised I wasn't banned from dear ol' Wal-Mart. A little over a year ago I bought a coffee maker there but was accused of stealing it when I was on my way out the door. I turned into Joan Crawford and that coffee maker was a wire hanger and every employee was a Pepsi board member.

One of my friends pulled an idiot move when i was there late one night. He took one of the electric scooters and rode it around the store. Shockingly enough, that wasn't the act that got him kicked out/banned. What happened was that he saw a huge pile of cardboard boxes stacked up in some formation in the middle of the floor. So, he decided to play bowling and drove the scooter into the pile of boxes. That was what got us kicked out.
I was actually buying some food when I was there and they got so angry at the whole thing that they weren't accepting my money despite the fact that I was in the process of handing it to them as this occurred. If anything, I would think that they would take my money and kick him out for doing what he did, and kick me out because I knew him.
Of course, we went back the net day and the same greeter was there and had no clue of the situation that happened the night before.

I don't shop at Walmart, but I'm a near-poverty stricken Midwesterner so I can see why some people would almost have to shop there. (My dad literally does have to get his prescriptions there. Might as well pick up some 5 dollars movies and some bubble bath.)
I don't really think judging fat and unsavvy middle America is the point of this story, though. I'm pretty sure the point is that Walmart did something horrendous and discriminatory. I, for one, am just shocked.
