He talks about driving an elderly man with AIDS to church where in fact that's not what the letter said at all. It said the man's father who is now elderly can't drive. So, Pat is too confused to even get the facts of the story right to whom ever he is giving the advice to.

Back in AIDS-Scare-80's there were all kinds of things like this: AIDS patients wanted to take as many of "them" with 'em as they could so they took jobs in restaurants and bled into the salad dressing, they put dirty needles in the coin return of pay phones and even plotted to put AIDS in drinking water.
