Why hasn't the US changed over to the credit cards with digital chips?

The U.S. is the juiciest target for hackers hunting credit card information. And experts say incidents like the recent data theft at Target's stores will get worse before they get better.

That's in part because U.S. credit and debit cards rely on an easy-to-copy magnetic strip on the back of the card, which stores account information using the same technology as cassette tapes.

I thought microchips were bad?

Just do what I do. Just use cash. I haven't owned a credit card in years. (Maybe because I owe a few hundred, but that's beside the point.)

But chips are how they do it Europe. I never thought I'd live to see the day where Goth thinks the US should take its lead from them.

I used my bank card at Target and now I have a limit until a new card arrives that would not even cover the Christmas grocery shopping.

"I never thought I'd live to see the day where Goth thinks the US should take its lead from them."

The US shouldn't take it's lead from Europe, we should be leading. Why are we falling behind in technology? Why does NYC still have magnetic cards on the subway when London has already moved to a touch and go system?

PRS, I forgot what trolling sounds like because it has been such a long and wonderful break from soviet russians. Your post is a horrible reminder but spot on, nonetheless. Weak US Credit Card Security

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that switch will slowly but surely happening. Goth, there's a huge store/retail website that just announced it would start accepting bitcoins (digital currency). Any one remember which company?

San Francisco has the touch and go system, unless you've got a Limited card or pay cash.

Because the only places he could go are places that speak English and the vast majority of English-speaking countries are welfare states (the non-pejorative meaning).
