Greetings.
My significant other is going to be walking his sister down the aisle of her upcoming nuptials. She also wants to have the typical father/daughter dance with him, and be more of a brother/sister dance. Neither of them can figure a song to dance to, so I have been given this oh so wonderful task. So I will reach out to my wonderful network of brains here. Any ideas? Nothing too mushy but something nice.
Thanks in advance.
Tink, I've been to a couple of weddings where the brother gave the bride away, and two songs that were played during the dance they danced together (in lieu of the traditional father/daughter dance) were:
Through the Years (Kenny Rogers) - which was especially appropriate at one of the weddings as the big brother was a few years older
What A Wonderful World - always a beautiful song of love!
I'll try to think of some others.
Through The Years lyrics:
I can't remember when you weren't there
When I didn't care for anyone but you
I swear we've been through everything there is
Can't imagine anything we've missed
Can't imagine anything the two of us can't do
Through the years, you've never let me down
You turned my life around, the sweetest days I've found
I've found with you ... Through the years
I've never been afraid, I've loved the life we've made
And I'm so glad I've stayed, right here with you
Through the years
I can't remember what I used to do
Who I trusted, who I listened to before
I swear you taught me everything I know
Can't imagine needing someone so
But through the years it seems to me
I need you more and more
Through the years, through all the good and bad
I knew how much we had, I've always been so glad
To be with you ... Through the years
It's better every day, you've kissed my tears away
As long as it's okay, I'll stay with you
Through the years
Through the years, when everything went wrong
Together we were strong, I know that I belong
Right here with you ... Through the years
I never had a doubt, we'd always work things out
I've learned what love's about, by loving you
Through the years
Through the years, you've never let me down
You've turned my life around, the sweetest days I've found
I've found with you ... Through the years
It's better every day, you've kissed my tears away
As long as it's okay, I'll stay with you
Through the years!
What A Wonderful World lyrics:
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.
I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.
The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you.
I hear babies crying, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world.
That is a lovely song. He is actually younger than her. She was the wild one we never thought would settle down, lol.
LOL... well, I suppose it doesn't matter who is older.
There is also "I Hope You Dance" - which is a lovely song of wishing someone the magic in life.
Lyrics:
I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat
But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they're worth taking
Lovin' might be a mistake
But it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
Dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
I hope you dance
(Where those years have gone)
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)
Do they want something uber-sentimental? Fun? Just sort of sweet?
There are so many different types of dances...
they are old school metal heads at heart lol, but she is trying to have a classy Cinderella wedding so I have no idea. I would say something not uber mushy but effective. I actually don't even think the words to each other matter, but that the appearance is there, know what I mean? I hate to say that, but I know that is really how it is.
What a Wonderful World has definitely been added to the list though, it is a beautiful song.
What a Wonderful World is sweet but soooooo played out.
Since this is a Broadway board, after all, what about something from a musical? Like maybe Not While I'm Around?
broadway won't happen lol
Didn't think so.
I love something like "Stand by You" by The Pretenders but I don't think that will fit her "classy" theme. I don't remember which song but i know their first dance song is by Sinatra
Tinky..how about "You & Me against the world" by Helen Reddy ...
You and me against the world,
Sometimes it seems like you and me against the world,
When all the others turn their backs and walked away,
You can count on me to stay.
Remember when the circus came to town
How you were frightened by the clown,
Wasn't it nice to be around someone that you knew,
Someone who was big and strong and looking out for
You and me against the world,
Sometimes it seems like you and me against the world
And for all the times we've cried I always felt that
God was on our side.
And when one of us is gone,
And one of us is left to carry on,
Then remembering will have to do,
Our memories alone will get us through
Think about the days of me and you,
Of you and me against the world.

Tink, one of my best friends was given away by her twin brother (their dad had died several years earlier). They danced to "These Are the Days of Our Lives" by Queen. It was very moving and it's such a beautiful song.
How about "Forever Young" by Rod Stewart?
