My cousin and I were doing that...and having a little more fun than we probably should have been having, and then everyone came out for a ciggy during intermission of the matinee and oy. So embarrassing.

My mom was asking about Anthony this morning.

.... it was awkward. She finally had some nice things to say about the book and all, but....

At least she wasn't as negative as she was last time.

It was pretty awkward having my mom reading the book while sitting next to me on an airplane.

Oy, I'm never letting anyone in my family read it. Not that I think they would care about the content...but just, no.

No one in my family would even want to read it.

My mom started reading it, then she kinda forgot about it.... but she enjoyed what she read....

Well, for contextual placement, my mother also thought it would be nice to have a conversation about why some of my shirts are kind tight on top. As not to be blunt, which my mother knows very little about.

Anyway, she did say some nice things. She said she really admires the relationship Anthony had with his mother, and that he sounds like a wonderful son.

Ha, my mom practically had an emotional breakdown on the plane. She really liked it.

Aww.

My mom really liked it too, but I expected that. She's a big Rent fan. And she reads maybe 2 books a year, so I'm pleased she read it.

My mother says she will read it this summer. I pretty sure she will like it, though I'm worried about the wounds it might reopen. I'm really curious to hear her opinion on it when she finally gets to read it.

On another topic, look what came in the mail today:
Welcome, Anthony Rapp! (part four)
The "Without You" audiobook (the CD version of it).

The audiobook is unabridged and is about 9 1/2 hours long (eight CDs). The tracks happen about every 3 minutes. You can only get it through Blackstone Audiobooks (the publishers) at the moment. You can order it at their website (in these formats: CD, cassette, or MP3 CD). Here's the link.
http://www.blackstoneaudio.com/
(Edit: Correction. You can get the cassette version through Amazon, but it will take 3-6 weeks before it will ship.)

Here are a few more pictures of the package (sorry about the fuzziness of the words).
Back:
Welcome, Anthony Rapp! (part four)
This is what it says on the back:

Anthony Rapp captures the passion and gift of the theater world as he recounts his life-changing experience in the original cast of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Rent.

When Rent opened to thunderous acclaim off Broadway, Rapp knew that something truly extrordinary had taken shape. But even as people celebrated the show's success, they were also mourning the sudden death of the show's creator.

When Anthony's mom began to lose her battle with cancer, he struggled to balance his theater career with his responsibility to his family. Here, Anthony recounts both the show's huge success and his overwhelming loss. He also shares his experiences discovering his sexuality, the tension it created with his mother, and his struggle to gain her acceptance.

"Absorbing, warm and hopeful, the book celebrates a man, his work and a generation struggling with AIDS but determined to survive."
-----Publishers Weekly

Anthony Rapp has been acting professional since he was nine years old. He is best known for originating the role of Mark Cohen in the Pulitzer Prize-winning rock opera Rent. He lives in New York City.

And then copyright info for "Add It Up" and "Waitin' for the Light to Shine."

I'll see you later. I'll be listening to this.

Edit: Anthony doesn't sing "Losing My Religion" or even speak the lyrics. Just skips over them (probably couldn't get the rights to repeat the lyrics for the audiobook). The NYTW lyrics of "Rent," "Seasons of Love," "He Says," and "La Vie Boheme" are spoken.

Just by itself, it was about $24.95. With second-day shipping, it was about $36.95. I would avoid over-night shipping because it would add $30.00 to the price.

I know that I should just look it up myself, but my computer is really weird so *shrug*. How much is normal shipping? Or is second day shipping the only other option?

Eep. I'm trying to tell myself that it isn't that much considering I should have money left over from Spring Break next week. Right, RIGHT?! Hmmm...

Thanks, Mariel, for the info!

Honestly, I just don't see the point in buying the audio book.

The reason that I want to buy it is because when I heard and saw him read certain parts of it the two times that I saw him, the way he read certain parts were different than how I read them in my head and I'm extremely curious to see how different the book is in that context. As powerful as it was in my own voice, it made it that much stronger in his and I'd love to hear the whole thing in that respect.

Yeah, I can see that. I just can't see spending the money on it. I'm also not a big book person, I pretty much read them once and move on. I also didn't find the book to have much impact on my life, so hearing him read it wouldn't do much for me either.

I bought it for similar reasons. It's interesting to hear the intonations Anthony intended while writing it in comparison to the ones I have in my head (like at the Chicago signing). Hearing the words give them more power. You can hear the emotions behind the words. I noticed this when I read the whole book out loud to my boyfriend over the phone (which, in itself, was an interesting and more powerful experience . . . especially when Anthony confronts his mother's dead body).

Also, my father also just got into an audiobook kick (he listened to most of the Harry Potter books and is in the middle of The Da Vinci Code). Therefore, I've been in the mood for an audiobook for awhile.

Edit: And again, I'm late in posting.

I don't think I've ever met anyone with that amount of patience.

What'd he think of the book, and the reading?
