Hi all! Just came back from the signing in LA. all i can say is....wow. WOW!! Absolutely the best day of my year so far. I kno it's late and all, and this will probably get burried later in the thread but I have to write. I'm too hyper not to.
*WARNING* Really long post ahead. If your eyes hurt, then you probably shouldn't read this.
Ok, my math test ended at 2:30 pm so I got a good time to make it into Hollywood. Well, I officially hate LA traffic. It was my first time driving into that area so I tried to be careful. Got cut off 5 times. Grr...
When I finally make it to where the book store was at, it took me another 45 minutes to find parking. Ahh!! I didn't bring any coins so I couldn't do meter parking so I parked in this area where I had to pay $5. I didn't mind.
I go to the bookstore and nobody was really there yet so I killed time at Coffee Bean. I made the mistake of wearing my butterfly heals so I ended up getting blisters on my feet. Oh well, my bad. After another 45 minutes passed I go back to the bookstore and see if there were people there. To my relief there was a group of girls wearing Rent shirts so I go up and make conversation. Rentheads are the nicest people! So easy and comfortable talking to them. (If are BWW and I met you there, sorry if I don't remember ur names. I do remember ur faces but I'm horrible with names. PM me if I met you and I'll send u my pics and stuff)
Anthony walks in around 6:30 pm and he's lead into the back to prepare before coming out to talk. The Rent movie soundtrack was playing over the stereo so we killed the last half hour by singing along to it (actually, we were singing it the whole time we were there because it was on repeat). When he finally did come out, everyone screamed and clapped. I was pretty close to the front so I was in perfect picture taking mode.
He asked us, "How many of you is this your first time in a gay bookstore?" Almost everyone raises their hand. Hehehe. Anthony read from the chapter "We Begin." After he finished, there was Q&A time. A lot of the questions I heard before on the Chicago vid but some people asked really good ones.
I got it into my head to ask him a question so I raise my hand, he looks at me and says, "Yeah" and points at me. I look around to see if he's really talking to me and I ask, "Me?" He goes, "Uh hum..." and get this, he looks at me again and he asks, "Are you Monika?" My mouth drops open, my eyes widen, and I say "Ye...aaaahh." He smiles and says, "Yeah, I kno you from the internet."
My mind goes completely blank for a couple seconds. I feel my knees start to buckle and I had to hang onto Grace to keep from falling on the floor. I keel over laughing for a few seconds, then I regained my composure and asked my question. After he answers, he goes onto the next question and my gaze drops to the floor. I was shell-shocked!!! The girls standing next to me ask me how he knows my name and I said I posted on here.
When the Q&A time was over, Anthony said he'll sing "Seasons of Love" for us, and guess who walks through the door but TRACIE THOMS!!! OMGOSH!! Everyone started clapping and screaming. Tracie made her way to the front and started singing with Anthony. Yea, she couldn't find her groove for a little while, but she was still awesome. She said, "Anthony changed keys on me!" It was really cute.
After they sang, everyone got into a line. The early birds got to be first in line. My number was 13. Hehehe. Tracie was signing off to the side. I got her to sign the book because it was the only thing I had and I also got my picture with her. *squeals*
When it was my turn to go greet Anthony, I told him, "Honestly, I'm floored that you even recognized me." He smiles and says, "of course." He signs my book (he even remembers how to spell my name correctly!) and I got my picture with him. I walked out of the store and to my car in a daze.
I don't even coherently remember the drive home. I was replaying what happened over and over again in my head.
Just thought I'd share that with everyone. I'll put up the pictures and upload the video tomorrow after school.
If you read this entire thing, I applaud you. You must be exhausted.
To Anthony: I dunno if you'll ever read this, but thanks for totally making my day and for remember me!!

I'm so so SOO jealous of everyone meeting Anthony.
I so desperately wanna be at the NYC book signing this weekend but I have a show...which is a good thing, but GAH i wish it didn't conflict with Anthony. Le sob.
yeah and i'm sorry to intrude with my first post lol. I've been lurking for a little bit. It usually takes me a while to gather up the courage to post.
Monika, glad you had a good time. That's really awesome that he recognized you. Unlike other people who are confusing and use other names, AMANDA!
Yay for Tracie! What's she up to? Is The Devil Wears Prada still filming (loved the book, can't wait for the movie)? And if the two of them were there, why didn't they just recreate Tango: Maureen instead?
downtowndiva, he has 2 more NYC signings in March.

I'm too tired to read the pages I've missed. However, I just have to come on here to tell you guys that the author of the Babar the Elephant books is doing a signing in San Francisco this weekend as well. I'm so amused by that.
In the words of Tim Gunn, carry on.
*hugs* aww Tracie!
i want to go!
sounds like you had a great time

Mandi, Amanda... it's all just TOO MANY LETTERS! Typing is HARD! I'm calling you "Da" from now on, because using only two letters of someone's name is the coolest. Hehe.
