Well, I guess that's $9000--no, $23,000--that won't be going to charity...

Is it a stupid joke? Yeah. Is it inherently wrong? I'm not sure. The sort of people who would pay money to the "Potato Salad" fund are the exact opposite kind of people who would fund an intelligent charity or give to artists making provocative work.
In fact, this is a Warholian piece of pop-art in itself. You don't put up a Kickstarter for ten dollars to make potato salad without wanting to make a scene. It's stupid, but it's stupid on purpose. I don't have to like it to admit it's some pop-art/performance art hybrid.

Posted: 7/7/14 at 11:05pmUh no, actually, Mr. Franco, it isn't. It's just cynical and stupid. Not the kid so much as the people.

Posted: 7/7/14 at 11:22pmIsn't that pretty much the exact reaction they would want if this WERE pop-art?

Posted: 7/8/14 at 1:13amOkay, I thought was a small child and while weird, it would have given him a nice college fund... but he's a grown ass man. People have given $33,000 to a grown ass man... so he can make some potato salad. I don't even know. *Walks away in a huff*

Posted: 7/8/14 at 1:17amI betchya that kid who came around here asking everybody to chip in so he could go to acting school in New York a couple of years ago is kicking himself now that he's settled into the life he never wanted. Damn being behind the curve.

Posted: 7/8/14 at 9:52ampop art anecdote: I have a friend who is a pretty famous pop artist. Years ago, I took my spotmatic F camera from storage, refurbished it, loaded it with film and took a roll. The pictures were awful and boring. My friend suggested I hang those pictures with his work in one of h is shows. "Are you kidding? " I asked. "Those pictures are crap!" "That's the whole idea" he said.

Posted: 7/8/14 at 4:13pmThis guy was on one of the morning shows. Seemed pretty sincere and said he is looking to see what kind of good he could do with the money. (Something about kickstarter not allowing the money go directly to charity?)
