b/c some states have tougher laws on the books for adults who peddle illegal drugs (and/or alcohol) to minors. Regardless, the parents very cleverly set a trap for Kaitlyn, homophobia notwithstanding. It's a really ****ty law no matter how you slice it. Depending on a kid's birthday, it's easy for some high schoolers to turn 18 before the start of their senior year.
When I was coming up mid-Oct was the cutoff. If your birthday fell after a certain date in Oct, you would be held back to start first grade in the following school year which happened to a few high school friends of mine. On the other hand, my birthday is 8/2 so I didn't turn 18 until after graduation and only 13 days before the start of my first semester in college when it was still legal in NC for 18 yrs old to purchase beer at most convenience stores.
