Well, they are too damn good. And apart from the blasted oil spitting up when you are cooking them, they are a snap to make.

Can I mention that as much as West Side Story is a great title, I'm rather keen on one of the abandoned titles, Gang Way.

Marni Nixon not only dubbed Natalie Wood's vocals in the movie but she dubbed a couple of Rita's singing lines on the duet "I Have A Love" so when you hear part of that song you actually hear Marni Nixon singing with. . .HERSELF!!!! Updated On: 11/9/04 at 09:09 PM

"WEST SIDE STORY" was released twice in the U.S. theatrically. It premiered at NYC's Rivoli Theatre in October of 1961 and was re-released nationwide in 1968 with an ad campaign that read:

"Unlike other classics, 'West Side Story' grows younger!..."

It's a well known fact that Natalie Wood did not want Richard Beymer as her co-star and during the filming was very distant to him. Updated On: 11/9/04 at 09:12 PM

That's Ned Glass as "Doc"--some of you may remember him as the Uncle in the Bridget Loves Bernie TV Series (1973).

it's also a well known fact that Jerome Robbins hand picked Natalie Wood to star in "West Side".. story goes they were looking for a Tony and someone suggested an up and comer named Warren Beatty. Warren happened to be filming "Splendor in the Grass" opposite Natalie. Robert Wise and Robbins went to see some scenes that were already shot of the movie to determine if Beatty was what they were looking for and Robbins and Wise became enamored of Natalie and looked at each other and said: "THAT'S OUR MARIA!"
