i echo the sentiment about teaching family... my parents drive me absolutely batty... she cant print something, i go over there, she does it again, it magically prints. or, she gets an error message and freaks out and shuts the computer off or a box asking for her username and password for whatever it is, and she always seems to think they want her email address & her email password.

until a month or so ago, my parents were on one from when I was in middle school (i should point out that im out of college by now)

My mother is currently on a PowerPC, running Mac OS 9.1. We've had this computer since two years after my brother's Bar Mitzvah, making it...9.5 years old. It's running on 320 MB, and she refuses to get a new computer...The pain ,oh the pain.

Funny how many other people are currently on family computers as well. Their's is a Dell Dimension 8400 and it's like 4 months old. We won't get into my dad's Commodore 64 that's set up on the desk next to me.

My baby isn't hooked up to the internet while I'm visiting home, but it's a Dell Inspiron 600m. It's a year and a half old, but I just had the motherboard/keyboard replaced. I actually entered a contest the other day to win an iBook. I felt bad, because I totally don't need another laptop, but I still want an iBook because they're so cute.

a Compaq desktop with an old Packard Bell monitor. It's old, kind of slow, but it gets me where I need to go.

PS-It's Y2K compliant!!! At least that's what the sticker on it says...

M_E, it's definitely a bargain. I'd say go for it..I actually don't know about the PC's. PM me with a link for it. I personally love my laptop. It works great-the only thing about it that I don't like is the short battery life. It's only "80 minutes". That's what they say atleast. It lasts maybe an hour for me...but if you're looking for long battery life, go for an iBook. The batteries on those supposedly last 6 hours..or something. iBooks are very stylish...more than Balance Notebooks atleast. The Balance notebook is kinda..just a block. Not smooth edges like an HP Pavillion..

Wow, you're not even looking for the notebook, and yet..that's all I'm talking about.

HP Pavilion Laptop with the same blue sparkle case insomniak has. Except mine has 3 fans to keep it cool and they are as noisy as anything. I want a Mac! Other than being noisy, and several of the pixels on the screen being screwed up, being heavy, randomly shutting down due to overheating, my headphone jack being cracked, and the left click button not working on my touchpad it's a good computer. I have a 60 GB hard drive and have used up over half of it with all my music. It's really fast too. It actually has a desktop processor in it. (Hence the three fans.) I have attachments that let me hook it up to televisions and projectors which comes in really handy when doing reports.

I'm in front of my Dell Latitude D600 laptop. Ask the IT department at Sacred Heart University for specs.

All I know is, I named it Macarena and it has the lyrics to La Vie Boheme as a background.
