Oh.My.God..
I have never heard of Frito Pie but I MUST HAVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I consider it my job to introduce the world to high cholesterol cuisine. Stockard, ever make those Scotch eggs? I'll be frying some up this weekend. Perhaps we shall partake in Chili Pie as well for a more balanced meal. With a side of biscuits and gravy.
aww, the Scotch Eggs thread..good times.
yeah, Stockard. Did you ever make them?
I'm so buying a can of Hormel, some shredded cheddar, green onions, jalepenos and sour cream and making frito pie.
It's hilarious out of the little bags, but I only have a regular sized bag. That's going to be my contribution to the Christmas day festivities.
I forgot all about the Scotch eggs!! I told my husband about them and he informed me he wouldn't eat them. Fuddy Duddy.
Make them anyway, Stockard. One whiff of fried sausage and he'll want to try it. They are fantastic!
And check to see if your store carries Wolf Brand Chili (No Beans) so you can eat Frito Pie like a real Texan! Real chili does not have beans. EVER! I've actually found Wolf once or twice in Illinois, so I assume other places might have it as well.
Mister Matt, I have to ask..........are you originally from Texas (Houston-are) and now living in Chicago?
If so, that is so bizarre - because I am originally from Chicago and now living in Texas (Houston-area).
I love Scotch eggs even though I generally hate breakfast sausage.
OK, I'll need to find the Scotch Eggs recipe again.
I don't think I've ever seen Wolf chili, but I'll look. I know Hormel does make a bean-less chili too though.
So even though my husband is too "health smart" to try the Scotch eggs, I ran the frito pie past him and he was all about it. Does that even make sense?

I was SO craving Frito Pie for dinner that I stopped at my neighborhood market for Fritos and sour cream. They had NO Fritos- except some 99 cent bags of Some flavor- BQQ? Spicy? We're having a chicken & Wild Rice casserole instead.
Chicken and rice casserole just doesn't pack the same punch as frito pie.
I do like BBQ fritos, but not for a frito pie.
Now I want Jimmy Johns. I was addicted in college.
O.O
I
MUST
HAVE
FRITO
PIE!!!
I have a recipe for homemade chili that I love making, maybe next time I decide to cook up a batch I'll buy a bag of Fritos as well. MMMM I love Fritos.
And for those of you who have never been to Checkers you are denying yourself the best french fries ever to grace planet Earth.
Speaking of fries, you can be too old for Five Guys, when you order a large size they fill a big styrafoam cup to the brim with fries, then literally chuck two more scoopfulls of 'em into your bag. I worry about how bad that many fries must be for a person's health. They go freakin nuts with the fries at Five Guys. Potato overload.
...They are delicious though, lol
Shut up.....
I don't want to hear about fries.

I do want to hear about fries. I just can't eat them.
Stockard, you are way up past your bedtime aren't you? lol
Hells, I'm convinced Stockard leads some secret double life. What other mom of a 6 year old can stay up till 1:42 in the morning?? I'm lucky to make it up till 10:00.
Hells - Yes, I'm originally from Houston. Have you tried Mrs. Baird's bread? I order it from the internet now because every other white sandwich bread I've found in Chicago is inferior. Luckily, there is an Uncle Julio's in Chicago, which is the only Tex-Mex I've found that is comparable to Houston, but it's so friggin' expensive! And I'm still looking for an awesome Vietnamese restaurant the likes of Van Loc (or similar Houston Vietnamese meccas of a thousand delectable delights). And I still haven't figured out why Shipley Donuts hasn't expanded out of the Southeast. The closest one to me is an 8-hour drive to Columbia, TN. They would make a FORTUNE in Chicago!
LOL, danmag........I know, right?
Mr. Matt that blows me away........we are reverse lives! And here I am so missing my Chicago foods!!! I miss my Chicago pizzas, Italian beef/sausage sandwiches with hot peppers (can you feel me drooling?), Chicago hot dogs, Polish cuisine, etc. etc.
Of course on the Mrs. Baird's (but all I eat is wheat). Oh you can forget the Mexican in Chicago (nothing compares to Texas Mexican!!!) My husband and son eat the Vietnamese, but I'm not that into it - I do love our Japanese and Chinese here though! Oh, Shipley's is the bomb and I agree they would make a killing in Chicago (maybe you should get a franchise!)

Ahhh! I was JUST missing my Vietnamese restaurant! It used to be on the corner of Broadway and Argyle and they made the BEST Vietnamese Spring roils. I'd go there and just eat those- but now they are gone. Have you tried Argyle street Matt? That is Little Vietnam Main Street. I know there are a ton of Pho places there but since I moved out here I never get to them since if I'm tint hat neck of the woods I have to have Dim Sum.
I'll check that out, Joe. I had no idea Argyle was the place to look. The Vietnamese restaurants in Houston were mind-boggling, though. And my favorite Dim Sum restaurant is that place upstairs in China Town right next to the gate. I can never remember the name of it, but it's the first flashy restaurant you see in Chinatown after passing through the gate.

Yeah I had some good Dim Sum there but it's always so busy! We're going to Won Kow for Christmas Dinner- it's Chicago's oldest Chinese restaurant. My go-to Dim Sum palace is Furama on Broadway.
Argyle is JAMMED with all sorts of Asian restaurants- Vietnamese, Thai and Chinese.
