Colleen, there ARE differences. No matter how they got there, they are there.
The specification on this thread was not made that it had to be biological. I'm surprised that there are people who do not notice these differences.
I think any professional in the psych. community will tell you that men and women behave quite differently.

omg. you did not just type 'i just pm'd you', jane!!
that is the ultimate in passive aggressive bs. it says 'i'm calm and unaffected by being squashed in this debate' when in actuality, you are not.
OR
'i'm saying nasty things about the person who just squashed me, and I want them to KNOW I AM!!!'
Merry Christmas! lol

Ok, I'll throw one out there.
What about the maternal instinct to nurture offspring.
I don't have children, so this is purely based on observation,
but it seems to me that while men feel the need to outwardly protect, mothers care more emotionally.

OK, OK-you can ask Elphie if I said anything bad about anyone. (although that would be very WOMANLY, wouldn't it?) LOL.
I pmd him because I'm afraid to post certain things

to be fair, I will throw out a big thought:
if gender and sex (genitals) are different and if a transgendered person knows they are in the wrong body before getting the correct hormones from pills, what is it that is telling them and also telling nontransgendered people what your gender is inherently?
however, i'm not ready to believe that there are any traits that are unique to one gender. I do believe there are societal reinforcements and stereotypes. I do believe that many transgendered people attach to those stereotypes, etc. to affirm their true gender. but I see nothing unique.
Discuss. :)

I'm more asking if you see a movie or something without knowing who directed it, could you tell that a man or a woman did it?
For example, if you saw NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN without knowing the Coen Bros. directed it, could you tell that it was directed by a man (or men)?
#31re: What Traits Are Unique To Men And Women?
Posted: 12/24/07 at 8:06pmI don't think that way and don't want to.

I wouldn't be able to tell if No Country was directed by a man or a woman if I didn't know it was Coen Bros because all the characters were human. The women, men. I think the best art is produced when you're not thinking about who made it; you're thinking of the story.
No Country wasn't like " a man made this story" or a woman, but it seemed like a story. That's it. About people.

Posted: 12/24/07 at 8:55pmI could never tell whether a man or woman directed a film. Most art that I see or hear could be created by either.

Now we come back to the ultimate question of all of Cruel's threads, which is "Why would that possibly be important?"
I was much more interested in the social/psychological debate of the differences between men and women in regular life, personally.

Men: Penis
Women: Vagina
Everything else is socially constructed.

actually, i remember reading something in Psychology Today that discussed the differences between a woman's brain and a man's brain. it explained how a woman's brain is in some ways superior (not the word they used) in that it can think of 2 things exactly at the same time. whereas a man, has to stop thinking 1 thing to then move on to the next. women seem to be able to do this simultaneously.
it was really interesting and i wish i could find more on it to elaborate.
