Anyone notice that the cover of the comic was blurred (on the recap) but if u watch on dvd its not.
Also..anyone have a theory about the graffitti that was painted on the wall in the hatch? I noticed that there were numbers, but I don't remember if they were any of "the numbers".....
I think there were. But not all of them.
I'm just annoyed at it being the guy from the flashback in the bunker.
I'm curious to find out the timing on all of this, since the hatch is obviously "retro"....How long ago did Desmond meet Jack? We don't know how long ago that was..except that Jack still had hair (LOL). Did he go into the hatch after that? Or has he been in and out of the hatch? Hmmm...so many questions!!!!
I somehow doubt the flashback was to the 70's, which is how far back it would have to be really for the look of the bunker to make sense.
I think there is more to it than "the guy from the flashback bing the guy in the bunker" I think that Desmond is either the devil (the whole flashback struck me as very Devil and Daniel Webster) or a representation that has to do with Jack, he was never out of this bunker just somehow presented himself to Jack in the past.
One of the numbers on the mural is 108, which is the sum of the numbers.

Desmond did come out of nowhere for that scene. I wonder if he had perfected the ability to "appear" for lack of a better word, an ability that maybe Walt is just beginning to develop?
Why Jack? Why then?
Desmond is the Devil? That never occurred to me. But immediately after he said to Jack "I'll see you in another life" - I knew we'd see him again and probably on the island - he struck me as a kind of deranged leprechaun, when he was constantly smiling at Jack during that scene on the stadium steps...
I don't think Desmond was off the island. I'm thinking he's somehow messing with memories -- putting himself into existing memories, or creating this memories in the first place. It's WAY too much of a coincidence for him and Jack to have randomly met, and from just that stadium scene there's no indication of why Desmond would track Jack. Therefore, I think it's kind of retroactive - that that memory was created AFTER Jack and co. were on the island already.
Not sure if someone said this earlier - but 108 is the sum of all the numbers - that's what was all over the mural. I saw on another site that the vial that Desmond shot himself with at the start of the ep. had the numbers on it also.
I want to know if that first scene was in the past or what -- that Desmond was much cleaner than the one we saw at the end of the episode!
i found this image but on the same site that the image is on (justjared), they have the actual audio and i only hear, "press the button. no button is bad."
does anyone else hear "don't" ?
Walt speaks to Shannon
i don't think it's a coincidence that jack and desmond met before, EVERYONE on the island met or interacted with another person or persons before they landed on the island.
Speaking of interacting before landing on the island. Did anyone else notice that the guy who was killed in Sara's car accident was I-can't-remember-the-first-name Rutherford, which happens to be Shannon and Boone's last name? He also died at 8:15. Hmmm...
he was just (likely) shannon's father. shannon and boone don't have the same father...
edit: "father" in the biological sense.
No, Shannon and Boone are step-siblings. Her father (presumably the guy who died) married his mother. If the theories are correct he was Shannon's father and Boone's step-father (not that it really matters with Boone being dead and all)
unless everyone really does have a "twin," maybe there's another boone walking around the island...
I recently found an interesting naturally occurring theory found in our world
that states everyone has a mirror image somewhere in the world. You may have
heard of this. Its called Roussau's genetic mirror theory, and I must say it
is very interesting.
Roussau's genetic mirror theory says that everyone in
the world has an exact twin somewhere, however according to the theory you
never encounter this person, by laws of probability and other natural
occurring phenomena. Its the theory that was devised by a French
Mathematician named Marseille Roussau in the year 1988. He used a series of
numbers to explain his theory. Now I know you're not going to believe this
but here goes.
4 8 15 16 23 42 (numbers on the hatch)
Let me explain...
The 4 stands for 4 degrees of separation (not 6 or 7 as commonly stated.)
Roussau believed that everyone in the world was connected by four different
people. So in theory could meet yourself by using four different people
connected to you. Example: Your brother's, boss's, neighbor’s nephew, knows
your mirror. Hard to believe, I know but keep reading.
The 8 stands for the eight continent, or the only place in the world where
you could meet your mirror. He calculated it to be somewhere in the south
pacific. Now we know its not actually as large as the other continents but
its used figuratively because everyone in all 7 continents could meet there
mirror on the 8th universal continent.
The 15 stands for the chances of you actually meeting yourself on this place,
as in 15 out of 4,815,162,342. Look at the second set "815." Ring any bells?
Interesting huh?
The 16 stands for the maximum amount of people that could encounter their
twin all at the same time. Think about the number of main characters.
The 23 is the number of years apart your twin and yourself are. You are not
the same age as your twin. By chance and probability it takes 23 years
exactly for the same genes that made you to be connected again to form
another you.
The 42 stands for the maximum number of years your twin and yourself can
be alive at the same time. However people do die at different times so
that’s why everyone isn't dead at 75. For example my twin was born on Sept. 6
2003 b/c i was born on Sept. 6 1980. Now that doesn't mean i will die in the
year 2045, I could, but its not set in stone. My twin could die when he is
16, and then the whole thing starts over again.
This is all very complicated and I don't know how well I explained it but
the connections with the show are too coincidental to not be real.
Roussau and his team (wife, included) went to the 8th continent. You can
figure out how they died and why by the numbers and equations. It also fits
with every character. You can predict when they will die. There are others
on the island who are twins of the survivors, but have been there 23 years
longer.
There is a book Roussau wrote 16 years ago in 1988 when he came up with the
theory. That’s where I got it from.
also, danielle's last name? roussau. hmmmmm....
Holy Sh!t RobbO! You just cracked the code!
i don't know about that. i can only find information about the mirror theory by "roussau" on one site - a lost discussion board.
there is a philospher, though, named "Rousseau" i'll have to research more about a supposed mirror theory.
for now, i fear this may be a conspiracy theory!!
OMG, that hurt my head.... Need more coffee.
According to IMDB the French woman's name is spelled Rousseau, as in the philosopher who theorized about the "noble savage." Still if that whole Roussau thing is real it would be a very good explanation for how she wound up on the island at least. It wouldn't have to be the actual meaning of the numbers, just what they mean to her. Such fun!
Good work, RobbO!
no! don't believe it. i don't think it's true. my boss forwarded it to me and i should know better than to trust something that comes from him. (he's easily distracted and has the detail orientation of a gnat).
thus, i don't believe in any mirror theory - not the one proposed by that writing anyway...
I saw that mirror theory thing also on another Lost site. I don't buy it. It seems like even more of a stretch than my theory!
I really think this is the greatest TV show - maybe ever!
I did some googling and I'm with RobbO and jasonf. The only sites I could find were quoting the same stuff and some time on various book resources pulled up no results. Oh well. It's still a fun theory, someone put a lot of work into faking that.
I love this show and I love all the theories you guys have. But they better quickly get back to the main reason I watch. .. Matthew Fox shirtlesss.
Way to be shallow and unfunny, Dame.
