We don't really do gifts - if we see something through the year we think someone would like, we get it and give it then.

But, we did share a couple of silly things that let our dear friends know we pay attention to them, and know what they like and think about.

And no, not everything came from an adult store.

So, what wonderful gift(s) did you give this year, that hopefully made someone you love all the happier to have you in their lives?

My beautiful wife and I put a limit of about $35 American dollars on our gift exchange this year. My knowledge of specialty shops is a bit limited here, so I thought clothes would be the best option. I hit a fantastic sale at H&M and got her a beautiful black sweater, a pink button down oxford and from Lindex, a pair of cute cupcake pajamas. She couldn't believe I remained in budget...lol. With a 25% tax on everything, neither could I. It is our first Christmas in Sweden in our new home. We bought each other a new dryer. When we moved in, she was convinced we could live without one. I disagreed. I was right. lol

We got my brother-in-law a tie with crosses and doves on it, as he's a Pentecostal minister and his wife a cute baby blue bible cover that looks like a purse. The mostfun purchases were for their three little boys who are the main reason we had to bring an extra suitcase back from the US. They are getting clothes, coloring books, Bakugan stuff, Mighty Beanz and fart putty. lol. I can't wait to have kids!

Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

I found, quite by accident, an LP a friend of mine has been looking for for years: some very strange piece of electronic music that I cant quite fathom but he loves to distraction. So, even at fifty bucks, it was worth it to see his jaw drop when he opened it.

My boss's daughter is seven, and I'm trying to encourage her art skills, so that was a pretty nice "art box": pencils, pastels, and the like.

My cats got a new bed with a built-in warmer. Trust me when I say they all liked it a great deal last night.

I dont have any family, so that's not an issue, even though it is a break on the chequebook.

My son got several bey blades, some DS games, a soccer net and a sled. I gave my hubby a tie from Brooks Brothers and some black leather gloves from Ralph Lauren. He gave me a gift card to Sephora, some nice wine glasses and a "wine card" for a local restaurant for 8 glasses of wine. Obviously I won't have them all at one time....LOL

Mom-A couple of sweatshirts and a chocolate penguin.

Dad-A couple boxes of almonds to snack on and a box of sugar free chocolate.

Sister & her husband-Pie plate, meat thermometer, and beer.

Sister-Shampoo and conditioner. I can't buy her anything that isn't practical, for those who think this is a weird gift. She wanted it too.

Sister & her boyfriend-Money towards new tires for her car and a Dunkin Donuts gift card.

Dad- The full game 7 of the 1960 World Series broadcast. He's a Pirates fan. Bless him.

Mom- The latest Neil Young CD. It sounded good on iTunes.

Sister- An iTunes gift card.

I gave little things, as this year was a lean one--gift cards and photo magnets I had made, and sent them along with holiday cards. A couple of people got specific things that I knew they wanted--a cookbook, embroidery stuff, graphic novels, martial arts stuff. Even with the little stuff, I still spent some dough. And that's not counting tips for the super and maintenance guy. But I do like giving gifts even when the budget's tiny.

The wife: silver bracelet, marcasite earrings, domestic stuff (candleholder, serving dishes, etc)

The kids: GPS, car stereo, iPad, tix to NPH in Company at NY Phil, clothes

Mom: A Twiggy purse, Elizabeth Taylor perfume and a phone upgrade.

Dad: Shoes. (His birthday is in two days, lol)

Brother: Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (DVD)

Friends: A lot of things. Favorite being a Candy G-String. XD

Mom- Yoga attire

Sister- PJs

Sister's boyfriend- movie passes

5 year old twins- Jesse Doll, Buzz Lightyear toy

Friend- a really awesome book documenting the "fight" for peace (there's irony for you). And a mixed CD...

Another friend: "The Other Boelyn Girl" and a candle

Most of my gifts were either clothes for the kids, or gift cards or candles for the older kids.

What I'm most proud of is I typed up all of my moms recipes. Her receipe box is a mess of faded cards, magazine clippings from the 70's, and cryptic hand writing. She always says "One day I'm gonna type all of these up." So I did, had them laminated, and put them in a nice binder with a full table of contents.

My brother has been out of work for nearly a year. He and his wife wanted practical gifts, so I got them several gift cards for everyday needs: the grocery store, gasoline, etc. I also got them some new items of clothing.

I got my mother a handbag and my father a bottle of his favorite 100 year old Grand Marnier.

well i haven't seen anyone but my parents today and i got them a DVD/blu ray player and some long sleeve shirts from my school that say "central mom" and "central dad"

what others will get when i get to see them...
i got my brother a set of shot glasses, a game called "WTF" and a red button down thermal
i got my grandmother a gift basket of her favorite stuff (p.s. i love you) from bath and body works
i got my cousin connor (7 months old) a bunch of itty bitty star wars shirts (his dad is a big fan)
i got my cousin sophia (9 years old) a bright pink hoodie from my college
i got my cousin talia (13 years old) a book called "the student writer"... she's taking college level writing classes already!
i got my cousin pat a poetry book
i got my cousin krissy a beautiful pink, yellow and pale green sweatshirt blanket
i got my friend's 4 year old daughter a nightmare before christmas hoodie. she loves jack lol

I like this much better than the "what did you get?" thread.

My sister and I got:

Our mother a new wok. We also cannot wait to use it.
Our father an Irish wool cap (just like he asked for) and a NY Mets ornament.
Our mother's boyfriend a wine aerator for red wine.
Our grandma a new fleece robe and a vanilla shortbread candle.

I ordered all of my friends new earrings from the Amrita Singh boutique on Rue La La. My sister and I don't exchange presents, but will be going out for our holiday dinner (most likely at The Melting Pot) in the upcoming weeks.

Nothing super exciting, but I think everyone enjoyed their gifts. It always helps when people tell us exactly what they want.

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

I also made her a bookmark.

Mom - pajamas that she was eyeing at the mall a few weeks ago.
Sister - gift certificate for her favorite nail salon.
Brother #1 (and wife) - gift card for their favorite Italian restaurant in our neighborhood.
Brother #2 - movie passes (which I now have to return since he's stuck in Florida with all the flights being cancelled.) I'm going to either send him a check or a Visa gift card this week.
Nieces - perfection and connect four games.
Mom's boyfriend - flannel shirt (he wears them all the time)
Best friend - red and black striped top (her birthday was on Christmas, so she wore it out to dinner).
